Sorry Taste of Belgium... I found my new love for brunch at Findlay market.
I'll admit, I'm not a big breakfast person. I don't care for bacon or sausage patties, or breakfast meats in general normally (don't shun me!) I'm fine with eggs and toast. But lets be real, that's not really filling or that tasty for the most part. But what Mama lo Hizo throws together is just pure deliciousness!
If you don't get a good burrito or bowl, it's really your own fault, as you choose what you want on it. No standard all-in-one and one only package here. Only a little bit hungry? Go for the bowls. They're smaller than the burritos. The burritos will fill you up. And you can choose from a regular flour or wheat tortilla. I feel like i remember a spinach tortilla one time, but I could be mistaken. Then you get scrambled eggs, and your choice of chicken, steak, or just veggies. I tend to stick with the steak. its cooked well, but still tender chunks.
There are 2 different types of pico de gallo, and then 5 different sauces in differing heats and styles. There are 3 salsas, a green sauce, and a corn sauce, as well as some queso sauce. I recommend the "mild but flavorful" salsa as it was described to me. The fact that the sauces are cold compared to the warmth of the rest of the burrito kind of throws me off a little. I wish they were at least room temp so as not to cool down the eggs and steak so fast, but man its still a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is one of the only interior places to purchase cooked food (almost every other spot is raw meats, fish, cheese, bakery). The menu is a bit confusing, but we decided on 2 Burrito bowls and 2 tacos. Tacos were a little skimpy, and over half of the bowl was rice. I would have asked for just a little if I'd known the man was going to load it up with rice. When it came time to choose the 4 included toppings, we went with Pico, lettuce, cheese, and guac out of what was displayed behind the plexiglass. Got to the register and was charged an extra $2.95 (twice!) for the tiny scoop of guac on each of the 2 bowls because I missed the info on the 8x11 paper taped to the bottom of the menu that explained in tiny font that guac was an add-on. I realize this is a small business and the guac is new, but they need better signage or at least a verbal notice to patrons that a spoonful of guac will be 30% more than than the regular price of the whole bowl. $6 for a combined total of 1/4 cup of guac is ridiculous. We were visiting from out of town and short on time, so this spot was convenientut. In a nutshell, the food tasted fine though a little pricey for the portions, & service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe guy behind the counter is extremely rude. I got up to the counter and before I could figure out what I wanted, I very politely asked for a bag real quick for a ripping paper bag I already had in my hand. He looked at me like I had asked for all the food out of his home refrigerator and pantry, money out of his register and his rent money for the next 6 months and told me itās for PAYING customers only. I was so put off that I didnāt even want to buy anything from him after that. I noticed afterward that they barricade the plastic cutlery and napkins and have a sign that says āDONāT TOUCH paying customers get one fork and one napkin with āonlyāā underlined multiple times. Like, what!?!!!š Someone else said they charge per each standard item that traditionally goes on top of tacos. Thatās fair enough I suppose. But anyway, yikes on bikes. What a weird Fred Mertz way of acting over a 3 cent bag. Almost felt bad for the guy, he must be struggling really badly to...
