I was on foot in Northside with a good friend who was getting me back out into the real world by shepherding me through a woods walk and multiple music venues, and when we passed by the Park Diner's sandwich board propped open on the sidewalk corner, something clicked. A glance inside revealed a rather fresh redo into a little shotgun chow spot, complete with the same style of kitchen chairs that my Aunt Betty had forever. So, we decided to split a big burger with a side salad each. Once in there in the front table, our pleasant and attentive waitress got the order pronto and the sandwich and side of fries were soon sizzlingly cooked to order. Our salads were very fresh, enjoyed as my friend Sara shared a hip book title and philosophy regarding how ideas and creativity come from the collective conscious. When I eventually dove into the the side of hot fries with my fingers, I found that they were absolutely perfect. Hopefully it wasn't a one-off, as few places really know how to not kill French fries by properly cooking AND draining fully—while keeping them crisp and hot.. The standard seasoning on the thin-cut "pomme de terres" was a nice twist, and future seasoning choices would be fab to choose from. The Park Diner could even become a famous destination eatery just on those perfect long thin tastes of heaven. If you go and eat there, tell them you want some of those skinny "Best fries on Earth," and you'll lick your fingers when they...
Read moreUpon entering, I was greeted with some very unwelcome looks. The waitress didn't seem to pleased with us being there. She never offered to seat us, we had to ask. It's a small place, really no room to maneuver. Me and my son tried to get to our seats, and the locals didn't have the courtesy to excuse us. They continued blocking the walk way and looked at us with hatred. I took a look around the small place and each white face had the look of "what are You doing in here". We sat for a while longer waiting for our order to be taken...then we waited and we waited until she finally said that we have to come up to the register to order. Everyone continued looking like we were black aliens and I was uncomfortable. At this point I didn't trust them to make our food so me and my family left. We came to cincinnati from st louis and that was an awful experience. Put up a sign that says "no black tourists" so people won't be confused next time. Food probably nasty anyway. Have a...
Read moreMaaan, I was so so excited to try this spot. I grew up in Northside and was glad there was a cool new spot going in where Park Chili was. I'm so sad to say I was not impressed one bit. It was Friday around 6 when I ordered, it was a big order so I didn't mind the wait, only 30 minutes, which is fine. I had to remind them to include my cobbler, then I got home and had no poutine. Had to go back and get it which came out fast. My sandwich was good (vegan burger) but then we went for the cobbler. THERE WAS NOT ONE BIT OF FRUIT! It was all topping. Seriously I was so so sad. It was bourbon cherry and all I got was the sweet dough topping. I don't give bad reviews usually but I had to tonight. Sorry, I wanted to love this place but I won't be back. Pic of dry cobbler...
