Loree's Little Shack-Greenback — Restaurant in Citrus Heights

I tried to go here for karaoke with friends on wednesday but I definitely won’t be going back. I’ve been here once before with a friend who was a regular, so I told my friends we should all go. We got there around 9, my friend put a song in the queue, then a couple of us went up to the bar to get drinks. We had to wait several minutes before we even saw the bartender, then before we even got a chance to order or really say anything, she got very aggressive and demanded to see the IDs of everyone at our table. When we went back to our table, our friends song was up so we sat down to talk for a second and let her do her song, already ready to leave after the bartender was so rude. Mid-song, the same bartender came up to our table, kicked my friend off the mic, and told us we all had to leave, specifically accusing one of my friends of being underage (he is 21 and had ID), and bustled us out the door. I understand we looked a bit young since we were 21-22, but we didn’t even get a chance to defend ourselves or show any ID to prove we were legal, not that we would have bothered to stay anyway. What a treat! We came back to this bar hoping for another fun karaoke night, but instead we got a masterclass in how not to run a bar, courtesy of Johnny —the bartender with the personality of a DMV line and the customer service skills of a wet napkin.

It took 20 minutes just to get his attention (despite it not being that busy), only for him to act like taking our order was some kind of personal burden. Meanwhile, people who walked in after us got full service with a smile. Maybe he was just having a bad night—or maybe he’s just consistently that useless.

At one point, Johnny even told one of my friends he “looked like a girl,” which, aside from being weird and unprofessional, was just… a choice. We couldn’t tell if he was trying to flirt, start a fight, or live out his middle school bully era. Either way, not the vibe.

The whole night was basically a waiting game—waiting to order, waiting to close out, waiting for someone on staff to act like they cared. Spoiler alert: they didn’t.

If you’re into bad service with a side of snarky energy from a bartender who seems like he’s cosplaying as a grown-up, maybe this is your spot. For the rest of us, there are better places to spend...

I drove past this place for years and their sign said the best tacos in town. Ok I'm all about the best tacos so I pull up there about 8pm one night. I sat down at a dirty spot because I didn't see any clean places. The bartender cleaned the glasses and stuff and just left me there to think about what I wanted while she talked to the other customers. I was already ready to order but that's ok, I can be patient. She asked if I knew what I wanted to drink after about 2 minutes and I said yes! Let's get a beer and 3 tacos. Boom, food was ordered and I was ready for a beer. A little more time passed and then beer came. The tacos took a little extra time but they were the only reason this shack gets 3 stars. They were ground beef which is ok but they were cooked very well. They have some pretty spicy salsa but the flavor is fantastic.
