Friendly's — Restaurant in City of Cortland

My family and I went to Friendly's in Cortland NY at 9:15. My three children wanted to get some icecream to go. The cashier who was processing our order was very pleasant. Half way through the order Manager Mike storms over and says he can't serve us because my children weren't wearing a face mask. I explained that they have a medical condition and physically can't wear one. Manager Mike then asked what the medical condition was. I politely declined. He said he was not able to continue the order unless they put on a face mask. Manager Mike then told me he was calling the cops and proceeds to pick up the telephone.

Here's the thing. I was more than willing to wait outside with my kids at 915 at night once our order was placed. The cashier already entered 2 orders into their system with no issues. Manager Mike said that wasn't good enough. He literally took 15 minutes to argue with me why he wouldn't serve me. It took more time for him to berate me then it would have to complete the order. At no point was he willing to compromise or work with me.

The kicker is, his staff wasn't even wearing the mask appropriately. Half the staff had their nose below the mask.

Manager Mike is a huge setback for the company. If he treats strangers, especially small children with little respect I can't even imagine how he handles his employees.

The wait staff was fantastic, I have no beef with them, I have beef with friendlys. 1.absolutely no GF options other than a salad. You couldn’t even eat their fries. Their lemonade was disgusting. It tasted like sulfur water. Even their mashed potatoes weren’t gluten free. This is surprising and I’ve never had so much trouble eating gluten free at a place other than friendlies even fast food places have better GF options. Absolutely horrible. I ended up going to Wendy’s at least I can eat their fries and a burger with no bun. We ended up telling the waitress we had to leave because there was no options for us to eat and paid for our drinks and left a tip for her because it wasn’t her fault friendlys didn’t have anything we could eat. Also the place was disgusting, the bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned no paper...

They are starting to add some good things to the menu so it has more dinner offerings which is good. However, the tables are very close together so you feel like your eating on someone else's lap. Also there's always alot of dust and just generally not very clean atmosphere. I'm sure this is difficult to maintain with the vast amounts of small children that are usually there so I don't completely blame them. The food is constantly good, nothing special but my son really likes it. It is a chain so it's not like they have alot of wiggle room to deviate from standard procedures and do something amazing. Still the best place in town to sit down and have ice cream. The waitstaff is helpful, friendly and hard working. Please tip...
