What seems like a secret but shouldn't be is this gorgeous fine dining restaurant found within a general neighborhood pizzeria aesthetic. Wow, you just don't expect it. It's hidden with no signage. I realized later that I mistakenly arrived here four years ago looking for fine dining. I came in and said, this is not a restaurant it's a pizzeria and I never returned. Turns out there was fine dining. These dishes do not disappoint from the appetizers to the main course. Make this fine dining experience a do not miss on your date night list or evening with friends and family. Now, back to the front of the room, the neighborhood pizzeria. Not to be out done. But, it's what your looking for to either kick back a couple of slices with friends, the big tables tell you so. Or, pick-up a few slices or menu dishes to go. Highly recommend any specialty slice. But, the flavors in my mouth had me wanting more I couldn't stop eating...LOL. I had several things to eat. A slice with sausage & peppers. Also, I never asked but I got to taste a slice of what looked and tasted like a Detroit pizza. Which is made with a great sauce, ricotta, pepperoni, red peppers, hint of hot flavoring. It was a Detroit slice or the angry pizza slice. Both slices were oh, so good. The zeppolies were a delicious surprise. I'm loyal to a pizzeria a mile away. But, this Downtown Cafe is in the neighborhood and walking distance on a beautiful day or even a brisk one. I came here by using the GoodToGo app. Download it and discover how great a restaurant this is by grabbing a surprise bag. You won't be disappointed. I'm definitly returning with my friends. Also, for you families there's a changing table in restroom for your baby. Also,...
Read moreNot understanding the amazing reviews I've read on downtown cafe over the years. Pretty much a pizzeria masked as a bar. Its deep fried basic food That's bland. We ordered the penne vodka. smokey and overloaded with onions. Had a bit of bitter aftertaste. We ordered the kids menu fried raviolis with fries. Waiter took our menu came back a few minutes later and asked what side we wanted with the raviolis which perplexed us. My wife said "well what do you mean" to which his reply was "you can have fries or curly fries" so of course my son opted for the curly fries. Was surprised to find a $2 upcharge for the curly fries on the bill later. When I questioned it the waiter said it cost them more for the product, however they offered it to me! They should have told me it would be more or simply not offered it. When I asked them to remove it they made it sound like they would do it as a one time courtesy. Well thanks for doing a one-time removal for YOUR mistake. I won't be back!!! By the way, the chicken parm a few kids fried raviolis a chicken sandwich and penny vodka came out to over $70. Stick with the local pizzerias you'll be better off for...
Read moreTheir Pizza is ok, not great, but paying $4.25 for a single plain Sicilian slice is a bit much. Pizza prices are already inflated everywhere but this one is the most expensive I have ever paid on long island or queens. It’s flour, a bit of sauce, and a bit of cheese. The markup is extraordinary especially with the fountain soda and bottled soda prices they charge. I certainly understand inflation but this is just too far.
A 50 lb bag flour is $25. That makes 100 full pizza pies. Yes, 100. Prices have risen 25-50% on pizza in the last four years on Long Island. I don’t care if flour doubled in price. Ingredients doubling does NOT equate to pizza prices doubling because the ratio of pies one gets from the ingredients dilutes that cost increase to a level owners don’t even recognize. Yes, they pay rent, salaries, and the normal cost of running a business but enough is enough.
Paying $12.50 for 2 slices and a soda is absolutely ridiculous. This particular pizzeria is not alone in the high prices but they get the award for most expensive at $4.25...
