I had a reasonably good dinner here. While the food and wine were good, as were the side dishes, all I kept thinking of was where the restaurant fell short.
The first thing that struck me was a big tablet menu with pictures of the food. This is never a good sign. How is a kitchen staff supposed to master 27 entrees plus 9 appetizers, while keeping fresh ingredients on hand for all of these items?
I next noticed the wild Atlantic salmon. Knowing that wild Atlantic salmon can not be legally sold in most countries, I asked where it was from in order to get an idea of what I might be ordering. The server replied that it came from the Atlantic Ocean. This response prompted me to order the Bronzino instead.
I actually enjoyed the Pan Seared Bronzino. The fish was crispy and served is a tasty lemon butter sauce. The vegetables were cooked until soft, but not mushy. The potato croquette must have been frozen (It was too dense and perfectly shaped to be freshly prepared) but was satisfying nonetheless.
The service was bit slow and the lights were a bit bright, but I would say the meal was okay. Worth mentioning is their outdoor patio which is quiet and pleasant on warm summer evenings. It was pretty much full when I...
Read moreTry this place out if you're looking for good food and atmosphere. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ VERY IMPRESSED with ONE SEVENTY NINE BAR & GRILL located on Main St in New Rochelle. Plenty of parking in the covered garage. Wasn't sure where the main entrance was, would have liked more signage. Entered the side door through the garage. Met up with friends here on a Friday evening for dinner after our first restaurant pick ended up being closed. I can confidently say I am glad it was because close to nothing could have topped this dinning experience!! Great variety in the menu and a perfect size to avoid getting overwhelmed. I liked the modern touch with the use of the tablets. My only critique is that it did get a bit loud and the place was fairly small and tables were close together so at times it was difficult to hear each other but that's as expected for a Friday crowd. Food was delicious and came out quickly and hot. Dessert was spectacular and ice cream tasted fresh and homemade. Portions were medium to large and presentation was very nice as well. Staff was friendly and worked smoothly and efficiently throughout the restaurant and stayed on top of refilling the water glasses. Will definitely return and planning to tell friends...
Read moreWe came down from Connecticut to celebrate my dad’s birthday and decided to try 179 Bar and Grill after seeing its amazing reviews. After an exciting axe-throwing session, we arrived super hungry and were warmly greeted upon entry. The digital menus (iPads) made browsing easy, and they also had enticing specials.
My mom, dad, and sister enjoyed cocktails, and they did not disappoint. My mom absolutely loved her lemon drop, and my dad raved about his passionfruit mojito.
The appetizers set the bar high. We had the calamari, fig and cheese flatbread, and fried clams—each one outstanding. The calamari, in particular, was unforgettable—perfectly fresh, lightly breaded, and seasoned to perfection. It was so flavorful that the accompanying sauce was almost unnecessary. The flatbread was another highlight, with its delicious flavor combination making every bite a delight.
For entrées, we were equally impressed. We tried the chicken Caprese, pork shank, octopus, and Mediterranean Branzino—each dish was cooked to perfection and packed with incredible flavor.
If we’re ever in the area again, we’ll definitely be returning. I highly recommend 179 Bar and Grill to anyone looking for a fantastic meal and...
