Update: Durian has got completely downhill recently. My last three orders have been wrong or worse different quality. First time I got drunken noodle, asked for light on the sauce which I often say because there have been times it’s too saucy and sweet. They make it dryer which I prefer. However this time instead of less sauce they did extra sauce. It was awful. I called and they apologized. The next week I ordered green curry which I’ve had many times and always good. However this time it was super sweet and thick. So thick I couldn’t even see what I was eating whether chicken or bamboo or eggplant. I called to complain and the nice hostess offered me a free meal next time. So today I got the chicken curry again. I ordered exactly how I always order it. No bell pepper, extra eggplant. However it came with bell and barely any eggplant. Two tiny pieces. In addition the container was 3/4 full, not the usual fully full. I feel like they have started reducing the quantity. Not that much chicken anymore and the cooks keep messing up the order. These issues did not exist before. Sad to say I probably won’t return again. The lady in the front of the house is wonderful though. Not her fault.
Original review: I get a lunch special from Durian 2-3 times per week. I’m very picky with Thai food but Durian is real and tastes great. It’s not sweetened American Thai. I always get the chicken green curry and minced chicken app. Love both. Always fresh meat and veggies. And good price for...
Read moreNot ready for prime time. We've been to Durian in Larchmont many times and this outpost is certainly far superior to the Thai restaurant that was here before. They seem to be doing a thriving take out business and my recommendation would be to do that rather than attempt to eat in. First complaint = no beer or wine and you cannot bring your own. Second complaint = it took over 10 minutes to get a cup of tea, water was luke warm and served in a small receptacle with a spout that was for sauce. No cups or way to make hot water. Two waitresses -- one who knew the menu and what she was doing walked away every time I was in the middle of talking to her or asking a question so I never really knew what to expect. The other one did not have a clue and dishes not as described. So again, food when it came out was very good, I just ordered the wrong thing for me due to lack of knowledge of first waitress and I had nothing to drink other than water or luke warm tea. Seems like they need to get their act together, but you should do fine...
Read moreOnce in a lifetime food at this place! Wow - So I came in on a busy Friday night, around 8 PM, and I didn't have a reservation, but I was seated immediately. The waitress got us water right away and took our drink orders. I ordered the Bangkok Duck, and my wife ordered the Lad Prig Whole Red Snapper. From the first bite I took, I was instantly impressed by the quality of the duck, and the crispy-ness of it. Very tasty, the sauce was perfect, not overly saturated. Portion was huge and it came with rice as well. My wife's fish was outstanding, and the balance of flavors was definitely on point, the chef really knows how to perfectly cook these dishes! As we finished our meal, the waitress asked us about dessert. I had to try their famous Mango Sticky Rice, and it was delicious. A perfect end to a great meal. The staff was super helpful, attentive, and friendly. This was our first time trying this place, but certainly not our last. This quite possibly could become a weekly outing for us! I highly recommend this place to anyone who...
