I want to share an unfortunate and disappointing experience my sister and I had at this deli recently. We stopped by to grab two sandwiches before heading to the beach. My sister entered wearing a bikini top, not realizing that the establishment has a dress code policy. A staff member politely informed her that shirts are required, and my sister immediately understood and left the store to put on a cover-up — no issue there, as we fully respect store policies.
However, what followed was entirely unnecessary and unprofessional. As she was leaving, a group of customers — primarily older individuals — along with some of the staff, began laughing in a way that felt pointed and mocking. I remained inside to place our order, and unfortunately, the commentary continued. I overheard one customer say something to a staff member, to which the worker responded, “Well, so sad, she’s dumb and pretty.” I found that incredibly inappropriate and demeaning, especially since my sister had complied without protest and had already exited the establishment.
This wasn’t about a dress code. It became about how the situation was handled afterward — through mockery, gossip, and disrespect. It felt humiliating and completely unnecessary. Businesses are responsible not just for enforcing policy, but for creating an environment where all customers are treated with dignity and basic respect.
I’m leaving this review not out of spite, but in hopes that management takes this as constructive feedback and addresses the culture of how staff and customers are permitted to behave in their store. A policy can be enforced with kindness. Dignity should never...
Read moreI am new to New Rochelle, Ive lived in Rockland county which I love & Grew up in Harlem. But, the warm welcome feeling in this deli is minimum. Just moving my family, I had nothing in my apartment at first. I visited this deli a few times spent between $35-$50 each time. The woman who is there all the time is very dry and unpleasant. She manages to crack a smile and appease you if you extend your self and make conversation. The 2nd to last visit she sucked her teeth cause I added something after she completed her receipt in my mind I said hmmm ok Ill ignore it. Everyone has a day. My last visit there I had my daughter with me. As we were paying another $50 I asked for Extra napkins for the order. I had my Autistic Child in the car which tends to make things more messy then the norm especially when ketchup is involved. She said “ I cant give you extra but, i can give u napkins “. I said “huh”. I need more napkins then the few you dropped in the bag. She pretended to not hear me and started talking loudly to someone else. I stood there and said “I need two more napkins”! She reluctantly dropped them in the bag. I find this to be poor customer service to say the least. My daughter felt Racism in the air and said “ I told you mom “. Well, Unsure if That is 100% true. But we were the only african American customers and everyone else she greeted like she appreciated their money & was ready to help them. If she was trying to make it obvious that we were unwanted she succeeded. I wont be returning to that deli. One thing I noticed is there is plenty of food in the area. We dont have...
Read moreI don’t typically write reviews, and I would prefer to give zero stars but today’s experience was so degrading I feel obligated to speak up.
I came into this deli on my way to the beach, wearing a bikini top - completely normal given the location near the harbor. Upon entering, the cashier immediately told me I had to “cover up,” and then laughed in my face. I was taken aback and embarrassed, but still responded politely and even apologized, thinking maybe I had missed a posted policy. My sister later confirmed there was a sign on the door, which I hadn’t seen — fine. But instead of communicating the policy respectfully, the staff chose to handle it with mockery and unnecessary judgment.
As if that wasn’t enough, I wasn’t allowed to wait inside while my sister, the staff remained inside talking and laughing. Then, according to my sister, they referred to me as “dumb and pretty.” That level of disrespect is beyond unprofessional — it’s outright disgusting. To think I would stay quiet on this matter is beyond me.
You can enforce a policy without humiliating someone. There’s a way to speak to people with human decency. What happened today was classless, inappropriate, and rooted in judgment — not customer service. I will never return, and I hope others think twice before supporting a business that treats its...
