I've been here many times and always have a good experience!
You cannot go wrong with any of the meat options here. However, I've had a time or two when the the meat was a bit too salty. Fortunately, this does not happen often. The great thing about this place is that most of their meat options are very affordable.
Their breakfast porridges are great as well. I believe that they do a mix of oats and plantains/bananas. Whatever it is, it tastes good!
And their fried dumplings are always great. They are never oily and rarely ever doughy. But, they always have that perfect crisp crunch throughout the dumpling. And for 50 cents per dumpling, try not to get carried away. 😂
The mac and cheese and BBQ wings (when they had them) are/were pretty decent as well and you get a good serving with both of them.
Their soups are also pretty good but can be hit or miss. I like the red peas soup and chicken soup. Their cow foot soup is okay sometimes and their goat head soup is good sometimes and overpoweringly strong on some days. But most of the time, their soups are good.
If I have to add a criticism, it's that the cabbage could use a bit more flavor and they could give a bit more food sometimes. But honestly, this is me nitpicking because the portion sizes are still good and the cabbage is still decent.
This is an easy to miss place if you're not paying attention since it is the last store on a private road on a busy street, but just catch the corner and you'll have a good experience!
Oh, and the workers are great! They never have an attitude and are always kind and speak with the customer. So, do give this...
Read moreI had the pleasure of working with Darnel, the owner of Sweet Spice, for our Associate Appreciation Day on 9/18/25, and the entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. From our very first communication, Darnel made the planning process seamless—whether it was coordinating arrival times, helping with food selection, or working within my budget, she exceeded every expectation.
On the day of the event, the team arrived promptly and, to my surprise, went the extra mile by bringing a table with an umbrella and chairs to enhance our outdoor space. It was such a thoughtful touch that really elevated the experience.
The food itself was absolutely delicious—flavorful, well-seasoned, and plentiful. Our staff especially enjoyed the jerk chicken, jerk pork, fried chicken, curry goat, rice and peas, white rice, and plantains. Everyone raved about the quality, and many mentioned how generous the portions were; some even said their lunch doubled as dinner!
Overall, the planning and execution were flawless, and Darnel and her team were an absolute pleasure to work with. Several of my staff are already planning to visit Sweet Spice’s locations and have started following them on Instagram. I can’t recommend them enough for any event—you’ll get amazing service, thoughtful touches, and...
Read moreOn 12/13/2018 I went to this restaurant, because I'm new to New Rochelle and wanted some Jamaican food. Ordered a medium curry chicken w/rice and peas, and cabbage. For starters, the guy who fixed my plate tried to keep my change. When I got far away home and opened my dish to eat my food, a " SHARD OF METAL" was in my food. I called the restaurant and the guy said, he knew what it was. He described it and said it was from the metal scouring pad that they clean the pans with. He apologized and went on explaining how it's hard to get the scouring pieces out of the pots after cleaning them. Poor excuse! That's pure laziness! He didn't even offer to refund my money. I guess this place is hard up for cash and/or don't value their customers health and only care about a $. I'm grateful that I was blessed enough not to have put the piece of shard metal in my mouth and this business is too, because I would've sued them for everything. WORDS TO THE WISE AND ALL; BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL IF YOU CHOOSE TO PATRONIZE THIS PLACE! LOOK AT YOUR...
