After a day on the boat we decided to pop over to NT and find a place to eat. It was a beautiful Saturday evening and everywhere was super busy. Since we did not have a reservation a few places couldn’t even seat us that evening. It was a bit of a wait here too but there was a band so we decided to come to JP Dwyer’s.
The restaurant is pretty big. Lots of tables inside and they can accommodate groups. They have a large outdoor patio as well with a good amount of seating. It’s definitely a historic building and divey kind of bar.
First of all the service was not good. It took a long time to get menus, waters and finally drinks. Trying to get refills was even harder. Once we were able to order the food took a ridiculous amount of time. We waited well over an hour. We ordered very standard bar type food. The server barely came back to check on us. People who came after us got their food before us. We asked the server about the food status at one point and she said it wasn’t ready and she would check. 15 minutes later the food came. Some was hot and fresh. Other items were cold, one item was not edible. I understand it’s busy and places are understaffed but we would have rather gotten the food as it was cooked so people could eat their food hot. It didn’t seem like the server cared much or was paying attention to when the food was up.
My pizza logs were hot and tasty. The sweet potato fries were cold. I did love that they were shoestring and still very crispy. They would have been even better hot. My significant other had the steak sandwich and he said it was fine. Other friends had the wings and said they were very good. Another friend had a burger which came out burnt, like had black char on one side. It was really obvious and the kitchen should have caught this and not sent it out. It took so long to get our food we ended up having to drive the boat home in the dark. Not a great situation.
Seems we came on a bad night. We did enjoy the band and people watching. If you come to NT in the summer on a weekend make a reservation for the place you really want to go to avoid this...
Read moreWe visited Dwyer's Irish Pub last week, and it was quite an underwhelming experience. There were three of us in our party, and unfortunately, the negatives started from the moment we sat down. Our table was so sticky, it seemed like it hadn't been properly cleaned in who knows how long.
We ordered 20 wings, a burger cooked medium, and three diet pops. When the pops arrived, they tasted horrible—almost like the mix was way off. We switched to water instead, but even that came in small disposable plastic cups, which felt cheap for a sit-down meal. The burger that came out was completely undercooked, still raw in the middle instead of the medium we ordered. The wings were cooked well, but we had to wait over 10 minutes for the burger to be remade correctly, which made the meal uncomfortable since we couldn’t eat together.
Everything was disposable: plates, utensils, cups—you name it. It took away from the experience and made it feel like we were at a fast food joint instead of a pub. To make matters worse, we watched as a couple came in, approached the hostess station, and instead of being seated properly, they were handed two menus and pointed to a table by a hostess who seemed more interested in sipping on her Stanley cup and playing on her phone. It left a really bad impression.
The overall decor and cleanliness of the pub seem to have gone downhill. There are holes in the ceiling, bathroom stalls that don't lock, and it just seems like no upkeep has been done to maintain even basic cleanliness. It saddens me to see what has happened to this place, as it used to be a great spot, full of energy and well-maintained.
The wings are still good, but honestly, if you're craving them, I'd recommend just ordering takeout to avoid the disappointing service and rundown atmosphere. This place has definitely seen better days, and I hope they turn...
Read moreMy favorite local bar! I'm there every weekend. Went there today for dinner, was seated outside immediately at 6:00. The hostess took our drink order and it took about 5-10 minutes for a server to get to us and bring our drinks over, a little odd but I'm sure they're just operating differently due to recently re-opening dine in after being closed because of COVID. Didn't bother me any, it's tough to get right back into the swing of things. We ordered 10 medium wings, 10 chiavetta's BBQ, ranch seasoned fries, and cajun fries. Food came out quickly but the fries were pretty cold. After dropping off our food the server did not come back to check on us, my boyfriend was out of water and his Jack and Coke shortly after receiving our food. His drinks were pretty full once our food was dropped off, and assuming she would come back to see how everything was, he didn't feel the need to ask for another yet. I ended up giving him the last of my water. A lot of people were throwing out their own plates and garbage, so we did the same. We did see our server, who was wearing gloves, push down the garbage with her hands, and then continue over to a table without changing the gloves. Who knows how many times that's been done/if she changed them throughout her shift at all. This is the only bad experience I've had here. Dwyers would otherwise always get 5/5 stars from me, but if I were basing my review off of this experience alone, it would be 2 stars. If this were someone's first experience here, they'd likely...
