Recommended this place by locals, so we decided to check it out. The look of the place was great, and the veggie burger I had was phenomenal. I was so happy to finally find a good veggie burger in the area. My boyfriend's buffalo chicken sandwich called the LIRR was disappointing though as it hardly had any spice to it he said. We then tried the carrot cake, which was good. All in all, the food was good and the look of the place was great. My boyfriend and I started getting a bit weirded out by the staff though, with the most alarming thing we noticed being how robotic the female staff seemed. The woman cashing us out was so happy and smiling that it was just downright uncanny, there just seemed to be something unsettling just below the surface. Little did we know this place is ran by what I and many others would describe as a cult, the Twelve Tribes. Yes they seemed well to do enough when we dined there, a bit odd but harmless... but looking deeper into the sect's very controversial religious beliefs, what ex-members report, and hearing/reading of bad experiences at this location's establishment in which the staff tried to recruit people/push their beliefs onto customers, and I cannot recommend eating...
Read moreOpen 24/5 (closed Friday afternoon through Sunday morning), they offer great sandwich and soup options. The bread for the sandwiches gets steamed which makes it extra delicious, and the wait staff is incredibly polite and friendly. No alcoholic drink options, but they have teas, hot apple cider, root beer, (amazing but pricey) strawberry/fruit juice smoothie, and a few other delicious drinks available. The have a veggie burger which recently was tweaked to be fully vegan if that's something you are looking for, but make sure to check with your server as their bread is usually so delicious because, in addition to being steamed, it typically has liberal amounts of butter. Great decor with old reclaimed wood tables and basket lampshades with wall art that is very "peace and love" oriented. I believe the place is owned and staffed by members of a nearby commune (hence the Friday night/Saturday closure and lack of alcohol). A great change of pace from your standard restaurant feel plus the wonderful food will make this a place you want to keep coming back to. Call-ahead/take-out food is also a great option if you...
Read moreEvery review on here is spot on. The food, atmosphere and service of the Yellow Deli is 5 star. We went there for dinner based on the reviews. We found the staff welcoming, the decor amazing- eclectic- and the food delicious. HOWEVER, NOT ONE REVIEW MENTIONED WHAT WE LATER FOUND OUT. It was not too long after sitting down that we noticed something odd about the servers. All the men had the same hair, the same glasses, the same beard and the same facial flat affect. We contributed it to the "hippie" like atmosphere. After dining there, we came across some eye opening news- the Yellow Deli is owned and operated by the Twelve Tribes religious cult. I will not go into detail about this group, but please Google them before patronizing this establishment. I have read nothing good about this group. Had we known this information beforehand, we would not have gone there and contributed to this cult. I have to give it one star in order to post a review, but knowing what I now know- the Yellow Deli...
