The service i recieved today after being a regular customer for the last 2 months was absolutely horrendous. Yama sushi has officially lost my business we went in there at like 2:30pm and ordered what we thought were lunch meals but were given dinner meals and payed double what we expected to spend today because we thought we were going to get lunch not dinner (dinner costs more because they give you bigger portions) and after paying for our food we had a dollar and 50 cents left and my boyfriend tried to tell her to keep it cause it's all we had to tip her with and she was like "a dollar for a tip? I don't need it" and irritably dropped it on the table. We always leave her at least a $5 tip, heck I've left her a $10 tip before! so for her to be THAT ungreatful over our last dollar when we clearly didn't have any money left over to tip her with like we usually do, i don't need their services and will take my business elsewhere, plus the kitchen staff was fighting in the back and stuff was getting broken and we could hear it from near the door where we usually sit. Funny they replied saying it never happened. Yes she said "here's your change" but we told her to keep it because it was all we had today and she said "i don't need it and plopped it down on the table amd walked away. Also funny they say they don't ever see me in there when I've been in there almost twice a week for the last 3 months 😂😂 also i am not complaining about the dinner prices. That was our bad but had she been a little more understanding and taken it we would have come back when we got payed next and left a big tip because we usually like to leave nice tips for services but unfortuneately we just got mixed up thinking it was lunch time when we got there which as i said was our fault but she didn't have to be so rude about the small tip because like i said we would have probably left her a $10-$15 tip the next time around. And if she did tell us it was dinner time i couldn't hear her because she speaks...

One of the only two Japanese restaurants in the county, this place is low budget. Despite it's newcomer challenges it's still pretty low budget from decor to staff, even after 4 years of me patronizing it. They used to be the bomb! They used to produce the best food for the best price but since the pandemic they have taken a deep dive in the wrong direction. I know that the pandemic has caused all kinds of problems for resteraunts to factories. But this is rediculous. For the last 3 weeks in a row I've ordered tuna avacodo rolls and every time I received them but the tuna should be red like the meat of a watermelon or tomato. Instead it's black. It tastes like it's ten days old in a cooler. I've also ordered sashimi deluxe twice and both times all of the fish was far from fresh. If you want to risk horrible food poisoning this is the place for you but, if I were you I would avoid this shop until they step their game up. This was the worst sushi I've ever tasted. I fed that stuff to my dog and he wouldn't even eat it. Obviously they're cutting dangerous corners.

Updated 2022... They have gotten a lot better at using better quality seafood for their sushi. It's still take out only but pretty tasty food. I still prefer the sashimi, it's super fresh, tasty and...

The food was amazing and the waitress was very sweet. She had good recommendations for those of us in our party who didn't know what things were or weren't familiar with ordering sushi. It was very reasonably priced as well. I'm so glad we stumbled across this place while visiting Plattsburgh! We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

I've been all over the world and eaten sushi in many places. Yama Sushi is some of the best I've had. Had the Naruto roll (don't see it on many menus) and the Big 3 Roll. Both were excellently prepared with a generous helping of wasabi and ginger. The rolls were delicious and fresh. The location is small, but friendly. I highly recommend it!
