Picture this: it's Saturday morning. You walk down a sidewalk on University Ave and pass by a foggy window. A scent catches your attention and you follow it into a building and down a hallway. The scent is overwhelmingly enticing now as you approach a bakery. The walls are adorned with Italian sports memorabilia, photos, and you feel at home immediately. You see a line of hungry customers chatting about the chocolate olive oil cake, pizzette, and what even are Maritozzi?

Forno Tony is a small but mighty bakery and is such a source of excitement for me as an Italian teacher! I mean, how lucky are we to have such a shining example of Italian-American ingenuity right here in our community?! I am so proud of what this business is achieving and will always be a fierce supporter!

August 2024 Update: Gelato has officially hit the menu at Forno Tony and it is superb. Absolutely superb. Samples are available if you're unsure of what to try but it's absolutely perfect. I had the fior di latte topped with peaches and it was...

If you plan on taking a trip to italy stop here first. This is probably the most authentic pizza.I've tasted in the United States. I live in both the USA and Italy. My nephew owns a very similar pizzeria style restaurant in Rome. I can't begin to tell you how great this is. I've tried several of their pizzas and I will tell you each one is unique and special in its own right.(Pizza Bianca con Mortadella is my favorite, ) it instantly took me back to Italy. This is the most authentic Italian pizza.I've had outside of Italy. That being said the gelato is absolutely fabulous. The Desserts? They are as authentic as you can get. This is a must spot for a REAL taste the italy. Hang your adventures for a good pizza right here. The people are friendly courteous.Attentive and just downright great. My hat is off to the owners. Who brought a taste of Italy to Rochester Ce' solo la Roma. Daje!

Ps. Get there early if you're going there for lunch.Sometimes lines are...

For the past 3 months, I have gone to Forno Tono with my kids almost every week. Mostly for the pinsa and gelato. I have been dedicated to working out extra hard every week just so I can squeeze a little bit of Forno in my diet. That is how good the pinsa is here, simply fantastico! The dough is light and airy, and the crust, even when you get it at room temperature, always has a crisp bite to it. The ingredients are so fresh. Never a clashing flavor. I'll be honest I don't know some of the exact names and ingredients to the selections but I recommend the red onion, sausage and vinaigrette pinsa. The white onion, mushroom, and I believe there is a vinaigrette on this as well. Another one of my absolute favorites is the roasted cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and I might be missing some ingredients here. Either way nothing compares to Forno. Peels and Forno are my go to and they are so different that this deserves...

One of the best traditional Roman style pizza cafes outside Italy (gives Bonci a run). I love the classic scissor cut & weigh which is always appreciated when you want to try different styles/types and you can tell them how big or small you want it. There were 3 different styles when I was there - a focaccia, a pizzette and traditional Roman. All 3 were fantastic! As you can see by the pics the crumb on each were beautiful, clean and high quality toppings. The dough had good flavor for a 24hr rise, solid chew, and a great crisp. Hydration was a little low, but that’s me nitpicking. This place is an absolute gem, thank you Forno Tony and Rochester for making my trip worth it.
