UNKNOWN OBJECT FOUND IN FOOD, COPS CALLED, SHOCKED AND DISAPPOINTED
I am writing this comment to bring attention to a serious concern that I experienced during my most recent visit at The Rye Roadhouse. My first apartment was located on High Street, and while I have relocated out of NY I always try to return home and dine at The Rye Roadhouse. On April 22nd, I brung a party of 6 to the restaurant and unfortunately, while feeding my 2 year old son my partner discovered what appeared to be a utility staple in our collard greens and this is where my shocking and unpleasant experience began.
As a returning customer at The Rye Roadhouse, I trusted that the food my party received would be free of any foreign objects or contaminants. This incident not only caused physical discomfort (the staple was bit into) but it also deeply affected my perception of the restaurant and its commitment to quality and safety. I pulled Greg (owner) aside to express my dissatisfaction and while he was apologetic, and “embarrassed”- he stated all he could was remove the $5.50 collard green charge from our bill.
I informed Greg that removing the $5.50 charge from a $136.00 bill after such an experience didn’t work for my party. Due to our dissatisfaction we would not be paying for the service provided and unfortunately we would not be returning to the restaurant . While we remained calm throughout this incident, Greg responded to me by immediately calling the Rye police -stating we were making a “disruption” in the restaurant.
We waited outside for the police (who arrived in three squad cars with the lights on) and explained our side of the story. Greg not only tried to downplay the size of the utility staple to the officers but attempted to paint us as customers who were looking for a reason to not pay for our food. I informed Greg that I have given The Rye Roadhouse hundreds of dollars in direct business, referrals and recommendations and that the money was not my issue; the service provided, the response by management, and the overall customer dissatisfaction was. In the end I paid the bill in full, Greg sarcastically wished my family a goodnight, and the officers on duty apologized that we went through what we did.
To The Rye Roadhouse, I urge you to take immediate action to investigate this matter and take all necessary steps to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future. Greg handled everything about this incident wrong and I hope that you will take this matter seriously and do everything in your power to regain the confidence and trust of your patrons.
To future customers, my first hope is that you never have an experience like the one I had at The Rye Roadhouse. Secondly, I hope you too take this complaint seriously. I only give my business to establishments that also value me as a customer and treat me and my family with respect. The Rye Roadhouse is no longer...
Read moreMe and my family went there for the first time yesterday and had a bad experience. We waited almost 2 hours for our food and the order was not completely correct. We placed our order around 5:30. After about an hour, we started to wonder if something was wrong. We were told the kitchen was extremely busy. The restaurant was full, so I understood things going slower than usual. However, we noticed that the table arrived half hour later than us already got their food, it was obvious something happened to our order. A waitress said she wanted to verify our order so we gave our order again. Finally, our food came to the table at 7:20. We asked for sweet potato fries with the fried chicken sandwich and got regular fries instead. However, by that point we were so hungry and didn’t even want to bother any more. The waitress and the bartender did apologize for the long wait and our lemonade and one beer were not charged, but no one explained to us what happened. I would really appreciate it if someone explained to us as soon as they found out what went wrong and gave us a chance to change our order to go or even cancel it. We sat outside because the weather was so nice but we never planned to stay outside after dark. It was cold and very unpleasant after two hours. It was so not the happy family dinner we...
Read moreI happened to be in the Rye area & wanted to stop for a sit down dinner with hubby. After a Yelp search, I found Roadhouse was the preferred local eatery. I'm not sure why. This place presents itself as Creole/American, but I've found more flavor in a rice cake. I ordered the shrimp & cheese grits. The grits were bland watery slop that clearly came out of a box. The shrimp were decently seasoned, plump & juicy. My side of mac n cheese was an abomination. It looked nicely baked at 1st glance but one stab into it with my spoon revealed cheese soup & parboiled macaroni. My water with lemon was quite refreshing! The cornbread presented for the table was stale & dry. My husband's fried chicken, I must say, was not bad...nothing incredible. The 'Gator Nuggets app were the best part of the meal, packed with flavor & blackened nicely. Halfway through our "meal", we overheard a family next to us & discovered why the food was so bad (with a 4 star Yelp rating). Their head chef relocated. Sounds like they were really good in the past, but, Roadhouse, ya just ain't...
