Let me preface this with saying that I/We LOVE Halal places. We have had many of our best food adventures all over the world at Halal restaurants. I/We are HUGE fans of all things ethnic and Asian, African, and middle eastern. This place does not qualify as ANY of the above. It's just awful.
We received (via delivery) 3 boxes with 8 fried chicken pieces total and 2 "biscuits". The "biscuits" were lumps of stodgy dough soaked in honey, over-baked and absolutely disgusting. I took one bite and tossed mine into the compost pail. It was inedible.
The chicken drumstick I bit into was likewise polluted with honey/sickly sweet something and the one bite I swallowed was both VERY greasy AND VERY dry and had a bizarre taste and nasty, lingering aftertaste. Not sure how they managed that, but the chicken is revolting. My husband also tossed his biscuit but decided that he would eat one of the thighs. He bit into it and some orange slime came out. WTAF?
I briefly considered tossing ALL of the chicken pieces into a stock pot to make some bone broth once all the breading had been scraped off. I thought I could have some both and safely feed the chunks of meat to my cats so that the purchase wouldn't be a total loss.
However, I have changed my mind since the orange slime came dripping out. Maybe they soak the chicken in some spiced marinade. Okay, sure, I nearly ALWAYS soak chicken in real buttermilk, usually with spices, often orange ones. But...once cooked my chicken NEVER leaks orange slime. It's mind boggling.
My husband swears he had chicken from Crown once and it was "great". Yeah, I never saw it before and shall never see it again. YUCK! I have brushed my teeth twice and still can't get the taste out of my mouth. I have gargled twice and I can still taste whatever that was. ARGH. I will NEVER order ANYTHING from this place again. Horrible.
Cannot recommend, sadly. I really wanted to like this place. We do not have ANY good fried chicken places in the area. And we...
Read moreExtremely Disappointing Experience at Crown Fried Chicken: I recently ordered from Crown Fried Chicken on State St in Schenectady, and I must say it was an incredibly disappointing experience. From start to finish, my meal left much to be desired. Let me elaborate on the various issues I encountered.
Firstly, the fish I received was burnt to a crisp, making it nearly inedible. The texture was unpleasantly dry, and worst of all, it lacked any discernible flavor. It was a complete letdown.
Additionally, the rice accompanying the meal was dry and lacked any seasoning or taste. It felt as if it had been sitting out for far too long, resulting in a bland and unappetizing side dish.
To make matters worse, my order of potato wedges was also burnt, leaving them overly crispy and unpleasantly charred. It was evident that proper care was not taken during the cooking process, resulting in a subpar and unsatisfactory side.
Furthermore, even the brisk iced tea I ordered was a disappointment. The can it was served in arrived beaten up, giving an unappealing appearance. Although this may seem like a minor issue, it certainly did not contribute to an enjoyable dining experience.
On a slightly positive note, I will acknowledge that the delivery service was relatively quick, which was the only redeeming aspect of my order. However, it cannot overshadow the numerous issues I encountered with the actual food itself.
Overall, I cannot recommend Crown Fried Chicken on State St in Schenectady based on my experience. The burnt fish, dry rice, flavorless meal, charred potato wedges, and a beat-up can for the brisk iced tea made for an extremely disappointing and unsatisfying dining experience. I strongly suggest exploring other dining options in the area to avoid the...
Read moreThis is the second time something like this has happened to us at this restaurant. The last time, we thought, “It’s okay, mistakes happen sometimes,” and gave them the benefit of the doubt. But this time again, the experience was just as disappointing.
First of all, they clearly do not care about hygiene. The restaurant was unclean—the tables had visible dirt on them, and the floor was sticky. They haven’t designated a proper area for washing hands, and even if there is one, it’s marked “Employees Only.” The washroom was also extremely dirty.
As for the person standing at the counter, his behavior was extremely rude. He did not speak politely at all. When we asked him for Thai chili sauce, he outright lied to us, saying they didn’t have any—even though we could clearly see it right in front of us.
We ordered food and spent nearly $100 there, but we were completely unsatisfied. I absolutely would not recommend this restaurant to Muslims. There are many other halal restaurants in Albany that are far better and worth visiting.
From my side, I give this restaurant a...
