During my recent visit to Syracuse, NY, I was on a mission to find an exceptional coffee shop and stumbled upon Kubal Coffee on James St. Let me just say, this is no ordinary coffee shop--it's a cozy haven that serves an unforgettable experience for your taste buds.
Upon entering, you're greeted by an inviting atmosphere infused with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee. The interior beautifully blends rustic charm and modern elegance, with warm wooden accents and ample seating that encourages both deep conversations and quiet reflection. As I settled in, I was warmly greeted by Rob, the barista who not only crafted my coffee but also baked the delightful pastries!
I decided to try the medium espresso infused with French toast flavor. It was a glorious awakening for my palate! Each sip was smooth and rich, with hints of cinnamon and maple swirling through the robust coffee--a perfect blend to kickstart my morning and kick start it did, lol. I sprinted over a mile all the way home sweating profusely from the surge of the caffeine in my system.
I also ordered a selection of pastries for my nieces-in-law. I had the lemon poppyseed cookie was a burst of brightness, perfectly balancing zesty lemon with a hint of nuttiness from the poppy seeds--it practically danced on my tongue! The butter cookie was another treat; soft, buttery, and just the right amount of sweetness, it felt like a warm hug in cookie form. I love the sprinkles.
The blueberry jalapeño scone and the peanut butter scones were for my nieces in law, but I did try the blueberry, I'm not a fan of peanut butter desserts but my niece was pleased. My niece in law said that the blueberry jalapeño scone was a delightful surprise, combining luscious blueberries with a playful kick from the jalapeño that kept us guessing--utterly delicious! Also the addition of the garlic butter that Rob suggested blew my mind and was insanely good.
The peanut butter scone was also for one of my nieces in law and she said that it was a dream for any peanut butter lover, with a perfectly crumbly texture and an indulgent flavor that left her craving more.
What made this visit even more special was the genuine enthusiasm from Rob and the staff. Their passion for coffee and baking truly shines through in the quality of their offerings. It's clear that each item is made from scratch with love and care.
If you ever find yourself in Syracuse, NY, visiting family or just exploring, do yourself a favor and stop by Kubal Coffee on James St. The combination of freshly brewed, in-house coffee, exquisite pastries, and the friendly vibe makes it a must-visit spot. I left with a full heart and a happy belly, already planning my next trip back!

Read moreSuper cute little Coffee shop in a rougher neighborhood near St. Joes Hospital. I ordered a caramel oatmilk latte and a breakfast sausage sandwich (toasted ciabatta bread, sweet chili mayo, Swiss, sausage patty and homemade egg bake). My husband ordered an everthing bagel with their chive and onion cream cheese. Let me say first that they make their own bagels, cream cheese, and they may make even more of their ingredients because you can definately tell this isn't your average big brand, pop up Coffee shop. My sausage breakfast sandwich (I'm a conessuer) was an epic surprise this morning. I broke into the sandwich trying to pull one end from the other, with the elastic bands of swiss cheese holding on for dear life, for a full foot before finally giving way. Their ciabatta bread(not superstore bought) was so light, fluffy and faintly sweet. It almost appeared and tasted that the sandwich had a cream cheese filling with its sweet chili mayo--yum! I'm so glad this sandwich is not only offered for breakfast because I could be back for lunch and dinner as well. I also have to say I'm not much of a bagel person however, my husbands everything bagel(made in house) was super light, fluffy and delish; not like a usual rock hard bagel. And their chive and onion and cream cheese was delectable! It's so light and fluffy(which makes me think they blend a sour cream/cream cheese mix? I could be wrong. But whatever they're doing--it works!) and it's incredibly herb-forward! Cafe Kubal, you need to sell your cream cheese to go as well--you could put it on veggies, crackers, flip-flops, and so forth. I'm a hard person to be pleasantly surprised and the last thing I expected was to be surprised by was a Coffee shop. Everything we had was so good that I had to make sure I put in a good word out for them. Hopefully it will bring more businesses and revitalize the...
