Nestled in the heart of Armory Square in Syracuse, N.Y., Pastabilities offers a dining experience that goes beyond expectations. Our evening commenced with a delightful starter—fresh bread accompanied by a pasta sauce and oil mix. The Garlic Stretch Bread, in particular, stood out as a delectable shareable for the table, setting the tone for a memorable meal. The drink selection at Pastabilities proved to be a highlight of our visit. The "Casablanca Olde Fashioned" with Blanton's Bourbon left a lasting impression with its smoky aroma filling the air. The "She's So Cosmopolitan" was a rich and smooth delight, complemented by a beautiful flower atop. The "Winter Spice Sangria" exuded festive flavors, while the "Blood Orange Spritz" was a refreshing standout with its perfectly balanced citrus notes. Moving on to the main courses, the Wicky-Wicky Chicken Riggies delivered a punch with a sauce that had just the right bite, not overpowering. Opting for pasta hats instead of traditional noodles added a delightful twist. The Pasta's Creamy Mac & Cheese Bake emerged as a true masterpiece, with Italian cheeses oozing in every forkful, creating a mouth-watering experience. The Chicken Parmesan showcased a flavorful and remarkable sauce, elevating the dish to new heights. Dessert was an indulgent affair at Pastabilities. The "Black Forest Chocolate Cake" was a rich and satisfying treat, while the "Ricotta Pie" proved to be the epitome of the best cannoli filling ever, leaving us thoroughly impressed. The drink menus, though on the pricier side, were meticulously crafted, offering a wide array of options to suit diverse preferences. Noteworthy was the option to purchase the Spicy Hot Tomato Oil Sauce, a testament to the flavors that lingered long after the meal concluded. As a family of four, including two teenagers, Pastabilities was an ideal choice for our Valentine's Day dinner. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, providing an enjoyable setting for our celebration. The restaurant's cleanliness and accommodation for various group sizes added to the overall positive experience. The modern and stylish bathrooms were a pleasant surprise, reflecting the attention to detail present throughout the establishment. The staff at Pastabilities showcased a perfect blend of knowledge and friendliness. Waiters and waitresses were attentive to our needs without being suffocating, ensuring a seamless dining experience. Their efficiency added to the overall satisfaction of our evening, making us eager to return for another delightful meal. In conclusion, Pastabilities in Armory Square is a culinary gem that surpasses expectations in every aspect. From the delectable dishes and thoughtfully curated drink menu to the welcoming ambiance and attentive service, it stands out as a must-visit dining destination in Syracuse. Whether you're a couple looking for a romantic evening or a family celebrating a special occasion, Pastabilities offers a memorable and enjoyable experience that will leave you coming back for more.

Pastabilities played a major role in the transformation of Armory Square from an area of abandoned warehouses to a vibrant neighborhood filled with excellent restaurants, boutique stores, upscale residences, and night clubs. Along the way, they added a bakery across the street where they produce their famous stretch bread. As a complimentary starter, the restaurant serves the bread along with their unique hot tomato oil (fair warning: the combination is addictive). They have an extensive dinner menu. Everything we've tried has been very good, but our favorites include "Wicky Wicky" chicken riggies and the mushroom lasagna. The service is excellent. POST PANDEMIC UPDATE-1: The mushroom lasagna is not currently on the menu, but hopefully it'll be back soon. In the meantime try the chicken parm. The coating is crisp and the chicken is delicious. Have it with their homemade pasta and delicious tomato sauce. UPDATE-2: Although I've been to Pastabilities many times for dinner, today was the first time I've gone for lunch. As I'm told, before the pandemic, customers would come in and walk along a serving counter requesting drinks, salads, pasta, sandwiches and other items. Orders would be plated and handed to the customer who would carry it to a table. Now, you check in at the bar as you enter, place your order, get a number for your table, and the food is delivered when it's ready. The stretch bread and hot oil are offered as an appetizer at lunch. It was as outstanding as I remembered. I also ordered the hot vodka sauce on their in-house made angel hair pasta with a side of sausage. Totally delicious. My wife ordered the Thai beef salad and a side of two meatballs. With bread, the meatballs were a meal, so she brought the salad home for later. Having lunch at this restaurant on a weekday, has the advantage of easy parking and no wait for a table. This landmark restaurant is truly a treasure for Syracuse. UPDATE-3: On a Tuesday, we arrived when they opened at 11:00 a.m. and there was no wait. Had a delicious lunch and were on our way by 11:45. UPDATE-4: I can't remember having a better lunch special than the one offered today at Pastabilities. It came with complementary hot tomato oil and stretch bread and an salad appetizer, both of which I've enjoyed at the restaurant previously. However, this was followed by their baked penne pasta with hot tomato oil and mozzarella which I had not had on previous visits. I asked for it with extra sauce and it was outstanding. A very filling and delicious meal for a very reasonable price. My wife enjoyed her favorite Pastabilities' dishes, the Thai beef noodles and a side of meatballs in marinara sauce.

Saw this place years ago on the Food Network and have always wanted to visit. I didn't have a chance on my first few visits to the area, but finally got around to visiting it during my most recent trip. Its located in a safe and walkable part of the downtown area. There are lots of metered street parking in the area as well. There is a bar there but no seating at the bar. There are a few seating areas: off to the right and another area toward the back. Currently there are plexiglass separators between the tables due to COVID. Also, the ordering system is very different...you don't necessarily get served in the traditional sense... When you enter the restaurant, you are seated at a table with a designated number. You then scan the QR code on the menu with your smart phone/device which takes you to a webpage where you order your food. You choose what you want, including drinks, substitutions and add-ons, and pay for it using your device. You can enter your creit card or pay using your "wallet" feature. You can add a tip at that time as well. You will be asked your table number before completing your order. When you food is ready, a server will bring it over on a tray in a disposable bowl/plate. I imagine this solves the "take-home" container issue, and prevent the re-using of dishes which can attribute to spreadable germs. Makes sense... My only gripe was that I wasn't explained this when I first entered...I was just taken to a table. It wasn't until I waited for about 15 minutes and another server noticed me looking puzzled before he came over and kindly explained the ordering process to me. I ended up ordering the Wicked Riggies I've heard so much about and they definitely lived up to the hype. Pastas usually are okay to good...but this really stood out. It was creamy and spicy enough (more than expected actually)...the pasta was not over or under done either. The lunch portion was only about $13...which I think is a great deal. I was even able to take some home after. I would love to return again soon to try some other menu items... Be sure to visit their Bakery (Pasta's Daily Bread) across the street for some sweet treats and other items to take home.

Well, we've been dying to get food from here for a long time. It's kind of a local legend. Unfortunately, someone ordered gluten free/vegan pasta for a baby shower, and they forgot to make it gluten free. When friend called to address it, they basically refused to own they made the mistake. In fact, tried to blame it on Noro virus, apparently. Now I have a pregnant wife who had to deal with the chills, desire to vomit, and stomach cramps that come from her eating gluten. Thankfully I'm less worse off, but that's no solace considering the situation. The receipt itself flat out says 'Vegan', but does NOT say 'gluten free'. Person on the phone with friend who ordered this food claimed that usually it SHOULD say 'gluten free' as well, but "maybe catering does it differently". So, sad story I fear: Pastabilities messed up, we're sick from it, and they have more interest in pretending it wasn't a mistake and not addressing it further. We have the receipt still, in case anyone has doubts. In fact, I'mma just attach it to this review for further proof. Oh, and to deter the Noro virus claim here... symptoms of Noro usually last 1-3 days. Our symptoms lasted around 4 hours, before we finally uh... Purged, our systems, shall we say? Unfortunately, we couldn't figure out what caused it last night. So we ate more today, before realizing what the receipt said, and now we're right smack dab in the middle of bloating, wanting to vomit, all over again. Le sigh. But at least now, we know: we ate gluten. Response to Owner: We had a third person from our baby shower report feeling ill after eating the pasta, the only thing they had that night. : / I'll reach out, but considering your stance so far I doubt we will be coming to any beneficial conclusion here.

Don't need Guy Fieri to tell you to come here! This place is fantastic. Classic Italian dishes and some unique innovative options peppered into the menu. This place eats like a fancy restaurant, but feels much more casual comfortable. We started with the Pasta-Cini. Think arrancini, but instead of balls of rice filled with meat/cheese, they used angel hair pasta to form their balls before breading and deep-frying them. They were very tasty. Honestly though, we probably would have been fine with just the stretch bread and Hot Tom sauce (first one's free), but I'm glad that got the app. The lady had one of their seasonal specials in the form of burrata gnocci (house-made ricotta gnocchi, fresh tomato sauce, basil, bacon, breadcrumbs, burrata) and it was fantastic. I had their handmade pappardelle topped with their Spicy Bolo sauce (their traditional bolognese mixed with the aforementioned Hot Tom) and it was also just perfect. Good sized portions of pasta that were fresh and good perfectly topped with really delicious sauces. If you happen to have any room left, don't sleep on the soft-serve gelato. I had some in an affogatto and the wife had a super-rich nutella brownie sundae topped with the gelato. Both were amazing. Even their coffee was great. Definitely check this place out, and make reservations if you're impatient. The busyness is a sign of the quality of food being served. Side note: if you happen to run into Karyn or Frank and are lucky enough to have a quick word with them, you'll understand just how pleasant and humble they are. I met them at an art show a little while ago at the Salt City Market, and they are just lovely human beings. Go eat their food!

We went here based on the hotel’s recommendation, not thinking the wait would be too bad on a Monday night at 6pm. That was wrong. If you have never been here and are just looking around, you for sure have to make reservations. No big deal, we found something else that night and made a reservation for the next day. I like the atmosphere but if you are looking for a place for quiet conversation and a meal, maybe this isn’t it. I enjoyed the pre-dinner sauce and bread so decided to go with the 50-50 sauce over linguine with meatballs for dinner. The sauce does get a little spicy as you go. But I like a spicy sauce so it was great. I was hoping for a little more texture in the noodle since it is made in house, other than that they were good. My wife had the pesto pasta with chicken added. I think they did a good job with the pesto. Sometimes it can be too rich or too much olive oil or too dry but the consistency and flavor was just right. It did taste like they use a different kind of basil, it wasn’t sweet basil, not saying this is a bad thing just a slightly stronger basil flavor. The service was mediocre. The first night when we said we didn’t have a reservation we got an eye-roll and deep sigh from reception, like how dare we do such a thing. Our server was nice, but everything took a long time. From the initial, “Can I get you something to drink while you look at the menu” to bringing the checks. It just took a while for each interaction. I would recommend this place to others for sure if I lived here. The food is great. Oh almost forgot. The americano coffee was really good. I liked the bean roast and flavor.
