There are those days when you're just craving a certain type of cuisine. Today for me was one of those days, I was craving Mexican and didn't know of a restaurant within walking distance that I can go to. There is a nice space near the Yonkers waterfront that I remembered passing when I was driving. Guapo Mexican, this restaurant surprise me on so many levels I will try to list them here. Let's start from the beginning, I walk to the restaurant then walked in and was promptly greeted by Aber. A nice warm hola and he showed me to my table. Throughout my meal he was very helpful. I started with the mofonguitos which you can see an image of below. Freshly prepared and extremely tasty. Then I moved on to a burrito filled with carnitas. I finished off with a flan and a Cafe Con leche. Diahanna was my waitress and as with the rest of the staff extremely attentive and constantly checked in on me. This is the kind of service you would find in a downtown Manhattan restaurant and honestly I wasn't expecting to find it here but it surpassed anything that I've had before. The food of course was a gastronomic delight my compliments to the chef, whom I did not meet but I wish I did. What also surprised me what's the entire vibe of the restaurant. The music was an incredible Latin playlist. Images painted on the wall of Frida kahlo, a couple of abstract paintings and a beautiful photograph dress the wall behind the teal blue Banquets. This was definitely an experience that I won't forget and I will bring everybody I know to this restaurant. I hope that a lot of people read this and take a chance it...
Read moreAs a culinary graduate and a chef I was very disappointed with this place. To begin it took forever for us to get a waiter to serve us. We waited almost 10 minutes for service. For appetizers we had mofonguitos and Cuban empanadas. The ropa vieja meat was salty and the empanadas were obviously fried in old oil. I mentioned it to the waiter that was serving us and he automatically told us that we couldn’t get a refund on the empanadas because we already touched it which we didn’t inquire on a refund we just gave him feedback that they should change their oil. At that point we didn’t even order entres because if a restaurant is cooking with old oil I can only imagine what else they are doing behind the house. Anyways one of us was still hungry so they ordered a skirt steak medium well with Moro rice. The skirt steak was medium and the Moro rice looked like they used white rice and poured black beans in it with raw chopped up peppers and cilantro to make it look like Moro. I mean come on! And it was bland so it had no salt. On top of that they served the skirt steak with a bordelaise sauce which never in my life I seen on a skirt steak. I believe that this restaurant should work on their back and front of the house staff. As a paying customer is disappointing to spent $122 dollars to come home with acid reflex and stomach pains with not even a service recovery act. Definitely will not be coming back...
Read moreSo time now is 12:19 went in around 11:56. I ordered the enchiladas with rice and beans and the red sauce. When my plate came, it was visually disappointing too much red sauce, so the enchilads were drowned in the sauce, I couldn't tell what I was eating till I took my first bite Starting with the sauce, there wasn't any big flavor to it, mostly water with some color. Next, onto the rice and beans. Rice was undercooked with a sandpaper texture. No real flavor pop to this as well, but I'm grateful it had salt, beans were tasteless as if they opened a can and just heat it up. Onto the finally as I finally saw my enchilada after having to dig through the water, it looked like a wet diaper with chicken that had no seasoning as well. The chicken looked pale similar to that boiled look instead of seared. Nothing special about the tortillas, just your average colored tortilla. Overall it was lunchtime and there was only myself and 1 other person in the empty restaurant. There shouldn't have been any excuses as to not take your time and produce a great quality meal. As a whole, it was probably my worst Mexican cuisine I've had up to date, which I couldn't finish as my taste buds were rejecting me from continuing. I have reviewed many Mexican restaurants, and this one is definitely not authentic it's an environment that screams authenticity. Sadly, the food does not!!...
