I recently had the pleasure of stopping by Durbin Farmers Market in Clanton, AL, and I was thoroughly impressed by the variety and quality of the products and services they offer. A MUST STOP.... right off exit 205 on 65 south... the most delicious fresh homemade Ice cream!!! I'm addicted to the FRESH ALABAMA GROWN - PEACH CHEESECAKE ICE CREAM!!! OMG.... I always get a Pint of it $5.99 Worth Every Penny! ( Or get a double scoop Cone!) I also LOVE the cookies and cream, pastacio mint, butter pecan... Ooohhhh!!! A lot of flavors to work myself through this summer.... You can Not go wrong with ANY FLAVOR!!! IT'S A THOUSAND DEGREES in Alabama.... Gotta cool off and its cool delishish with this ice cream! Okay I'll admit, I also have to get the Gharidelli Chocolate toasted marshmallow double chocolate frosted BROWNIE!!!! (YES, YES, YES!!!! The Game of Thrones Shame Bell is ringing behind me people!!!! Ooohhhh!!! Yes I am not ashamed because no one can see it inside my durbin farms opaque white Carry out BAG! HAHAHAH!) A guilty pleasure to eat gently warmed up with the Vanilla ICE CREAM On top!!! Its a huge slice so I cut it in 4 pieces to enjoy at home along with the few pints or quart of ice cream i bring home. I also buy locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables once a week here. If you are just driving by on a road trip, or commuting to and from work or whatever, stop by this Alabama treasure, the farmers market has great locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, syrups, jellies, jams, chow chows, pickles, pickled veggies and stuff, salad dressings and even wines. Boiled peanuts. Pies and breads. If you're hungry, the Cafe has delishish cafe fair, sandwiches, salads, soups, desserts and my favorite ICE CREAM! LOL... There is a gift shop also. I'm not being biased, I am one of the most pickiest people and hard to please when it comes to food. Don't let me start on the nasty food at taco bell. But I was lucky to have met the owner and he is one of the nicest persons I have ever met. I still need to take up the offer to stop by for a glass of wine. LOL Do your self and your family a favor this summer and stop at Durbins Farm and go eat...

I bought a quart of strawberries and was charged for two quarts. When I noticed it I called to see if that could be corrected. Nothing doing. I was treated rudely and told to be more careful next time. I guess everyone has a bad day, but this woman passed it on to me. To add injury to insult, the strawberries were not good.

Update: 4 months later I stopped again, but probably never again. These folks seem to wish I would just not stop there. It’s good to be able to grant a wish.

Wondering why I have bad experiences here . . . They are located in a place where a lot of people are ready to get off the freeway and take a break, and they’re right at the exit. The location is going to bring them all the customers they can handle. There’s no need to cultivate customer good will, and so they don’t. The folks at Peach Park on the other side of the freeway have always been more appreciative of customers. I have been stopping in Clanton for 27 years. Durbin Market has better sandwiches. Peach Park is better for everything else- peaches, produce, pies, etc. A little further north up the road we used to stop at Heaton Pecan, but they have fallen off some in the last few years. They used to have the best butter pecan ice cream on the planet.

Update: traveling north on I65 with a passenger we were discussing where to buy peaches in Clanton. The consensus was Peach Park. My passenger said that she always felt unwelcome at Durbin. I’m sure not everyone feels that way, but...
