Very large margaritas. But as they say the size does not matter, because in this case a bad margarita is hard to finish to matter what the size. Elvira's Mexican Grill is located in the Old School House building on the corner of Indian Hill and Foothill Blvd. The restaurant has a nice ambiance. The owners spent some money renovating the place. The bar area is cozy. But the outdoor patio is the place to be. There is a fire wall that illuminates the space at night in addition to white strung outdoor lights. Service is hit and miss. The service the last time I went was spot on. The wait was minimal, the table and the space was clean, we were approached right away by our server and given a basket of tortilla chips that were still warm and salsa. I have yet to order an entree I did not like. The shrimps are large and perfectly sautéed, the beef fajitas in the bell peppers were juicy, the chicken enchiladas were moist and full, and their salads were fresh. Tonight I had a Blood Orange Margarita with Tanjean salt on the rim. If you like flavored margaritas, this is a must try. Parking is difficult. Currently a parking structure is under construction, but in the meantime be prepared to drive around for a space. I give this restaurant 4 stars because the service is not always consistent and the parking situation. Sometimes you are driving around and around for a space.

Went here with my family on Mothers Day. Was not expecting much. The build out was impressive. Ambiance was working hard.. Beautiful Latino paintings everywhere. They transformed the old school house into a cutting edge trendy upscale local.. The hostesses were beautiful and efficient. We sat and were placed 10 inches from the main pathway of entrence and exit to the patio.. But I decided it would not get to me.. We ordered drinks and starters. Tropical tea was good.. Horchata was watery and a tasteless waste of time. My beer came cold in a "tiny" little glass.. Chips where great... The salsa, salty, flavorful but went right through us.. Literally. The "table side" large guacamole was prepared by our indifferent waiter.. One medium sized avocado $10.99 smooshed up in a plastic mocahete, we were asked "spicy or mild" ?.. Lol.. our waiter served us as if he were stopping by our table during breaks from his real job a couple of addresses away.. After waiting nearly an hour for our food the good chips and good tea had worn off.. Just hoping our food would be hot.... It wasnt. Rice and beans.. standard fair, same youve had a million times before.. Good enough when they were hot, but they werent. Some seasoning would have shown some love.. But no love here. Fajitas came.. Chicken was cold, steak chewy.. No sauce, no love. All the food was cold. I've had better Mexican food at a drive through taco stand in Lake Elsenore than we did here... I ordered 4 flans out of desperation. The flan was exceptional. Was it worth 120.00 for four people, one that only had a cold bean and cheese burrito ? ... No. For our first time at this latest occupation of the "old school house" I was very disappointed ... I had had better meals at every Mexican restaurant that preceeded this latest manifestation.. From Don Salsa, to whatever came after, I've never had such a lack luster Mexican culinary experience as we did here on Mothers Day... A large party next to us mounted a rebellion and raked the manager over the coals for comped meals.. Us, we just rolled with it, but we're not going to make the same mistake twice. Sad really, pretty place, but evidentally so poorly run and staffed that they couldn't deliver hot tasty food 20 feet from a kitchen that showed any care or desire to serve good food to save its life... Thinking of going here are ya? Don't bother. Hit taco bell, Brandon's dinner lol, .. Better yet, La Paloma a couple of miles west in Pomona... But this place here is criminal.. And the bathrooms? Sheeeesh... Just horrible.. But fitting.. Broken and dirty. Lets hope the next restaurant to move in here shows as much care for its food as it does its build out.. I'm hoping for Japanese food... Mexican food can obviously be made for pennies, but we have Mexican food on every corner.. "GOOD" Mexican food... But Japanese seems to be more difficult to obtain. Sorry for the honest review folks.... But you let us down, and...

Yuck! I came based on neighbor's recommendations. Worst Mexican food for the highest prices and worst slow inattentive service I have ever had. Won't go back. Wanted to try pork but they only have carnitas on weekends. What kind of pork do you have today? Chile Verde. Can I get that on my combo as the taco meat? No. As the enchilada meat? No. Can I get green sauce on my enchilada. For extra money. Also getting chicken or beef is extra because it's a cheese enchilada, okay. Beef taco came fried with burned meat at the edges. But the worst thing was I got the worst chili relleno I have ever had. When they put the Plato in front of me it smelled like Italian food. It was the sauce on the relleno. But if you like a cold Chile relleno with a raw pepper and the clumpy cheese not even melted and covered in spaghetti sauce then this is the place for you. Not worth it to come back to try the carnitas for me. I already know it's only available in a $20 plate form, no tacos. If you prefer to order a la Carta because you don't eat beans and rice, you better ask first because what I experienced was only the most expensive combos appeared on the scanned menu, and they don't have a paper one anymore. I wanted to ask my waiter about a la carte to taste the chili Verde but he never came back to my table until he brought my combo order, even though I had been trying to call him back loudly since the second he took my order. I only found out because the owner heard me calling for the waiter and came over. She was telling me that a la carte would have been possible just as he was bringing my plate. I had told her that if he was paying any less attention to me, he was gonna owe me a tip. I still tipped him because the no substitutions and stuff was not his fault. Owner came back to ask how was everything, I told her honesty that the relleno sauce was bad. She sounded proud of it, says we make it fresh from tomatoes daily. Okay. I never said that it wasn't fresh. Just taste like fresh pasta sauce, too much oregano. She knew that I had wanted to try the pork a la carte, and still didn't bring any out for me to try. I also don't like my taco deep fried. The best item on the combo was the chicken enchilada, but they were very stingy with the green sauce I paid extra for and the cheese. I make way better green chicken enchiladas myself at home and better salsa Verde and I am...

First of all this is the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED IN MY 60 YRS. They're no Reservations policy is utterly RIDICULOUS if you have a party of 10 or more DO NOT COME HERE !! My group was 14 we showed up at 2 a few were late in my party 3 to be exact we were not seated until almost 4:00 by then we were starving & thirsty I asked several times if they could just seat us so that we could at least order drinks & chips & salsa they just kept saying oh yr tables almost ready. Once we were seated it took another 45 min to get some drinks not even water we had to ask for that & it came after the drinks & finally chips & salsa an hour now, when asked why chips & salsa were not brought out immediately once we were seated this waitress proceeded to tell us "They are not allowed to because they didn't want anyone to choke on their chips while drinking their drinks" I have NEVER IN MY LIFE HEARD SUCH A RIDICULOUS OUTRAGEOUS STATEMENT I was completely stunned by this & had to laugh although I was beyond mad at this point needless to say we will NEVER GO BACK They're restrictions & rules & total lack of even decent Customer service is crazy I have never been to a Mexican restaurant this BAD If u have an Event Party or something Special DONT HAVE IT HERE they're only saving grace was the food & drinks were good I don't know who runs this particular restaurant but they need to seriously invest in Customer service TRAINING ASAP take yr employees to another restaurant to see what Customer service...
