Ugly Mug Bean & Brew — Restaurant in Clayton

Stop by this morning to grab a much-needed cup of coffee. I visited here four or five times over the last month. They make a good cup of coffee. Today I had a poor experience. I walked in the store, three people in front of me. They were all together. Got to place my order and there was one gentleman behind me. Waited a few minutes and another lady came in. The gentleman behind me received his coffee. The lady behind me also received her order. After receiving my cup of coffee I asked the young lady why did they receive their coffee before I receive my coffee. Hwr response I'm not sure and look towards a gentleman. He asked if he could help me and I asked him the same question. Why did they receive their coffee before I received my coffee. His response, he throws his hands up in the air and says it just get crazy when we're busy. Two Caucasians place orders after me but receive their purchase before me. I ordered a simple cup of black coffee. Maybe you think I'm hypersensitive. Maybe you are becoming desensitized to unconscious racism or biased .

Three people in the store = busy? Needless to say, I'm done with the Ugly Mug

Mind you there were a total of 3 people in the store. Now I know some of you are going to say that I'm just being hypersensitive as a African American man, but when two Caucasian people who came in noticeably after you, receive the same purchase prior to my receiving my coffee, something's not right. If it's just an accident then oh well. What if it's not an accident then someone needs to pay more attention.

I'm done with the ugly mug. If I can't make it to Starbucks I'll just have to settle...

It’s a warm and welcoming spot that truly feels like home. The staff is always kind and attentive, and on the rare occasion something is off, they are quick to make it right with a smile.

The food is just as impressive as the drinks. Their signature Mugwich is my absolute favorite. It includes a fried egg, bacon, cheese, and avocado, served with a side of fresh seasonal fruit. It is a simple and satisfying meal that never disappoints.

Watching this business grow has been such a joy. I will continue to support them for as long as they are around. The Ugly Mug will always...

Steampunk house chic with great Brews! (Coffee and craft beer) a fun place! , huge selections of custom coffee drinks hot, cold, or frozen, kid friendly, staff is very accommodating and welcoming. I csme for breatfast. Their Belgium waffles are flavorful, light and best in area, (choices of toppings) , I had the sampler.. just under $8..it came with Belgium waffle cut in points for ease. I chose fresh strawberries, ( maple syrup of course), yogurt parfait, two huge farmhouse fresh eggs, and bacon *(the bacon is the reason i didnt give it 5 stars.. it was the very thin precooked box kind so you barely saw the strips once heated..Although it had good flavor) ..all and all lots of great food for the price.(not including the bacon..it was far better tasting than craker barrel down the road) . I also had the Buck wild iced coffee (french vanilla, hazelnut, caramel..) Oh and their bakery craft bread is wonderful.. I found out when i asked for toast once i saw how huge my over easy eggs were).
