Totally would have given this place a 4 or probably a 5 had we been able to get shucked oysters. Sorry guys (owners). We specifically went yesterday and ordered drinks (party of 4) and then were told that they had no oysters (they had fried ones). I was totally bummed out as that is what we went for. We weren't the only disappointed people, two parties came and left, and a few others present did what we did, order other items. We had planned on ordering other items too, so we were just minus the shucked oysters. Our server forgot to mention they had no oysters before we ordered drinks, but to be fair he did note this for others as they came in. We had arrived around 3 PM and it was kind of slow, but we planned our arrival time. The food we did get was really good, and we tried boiled peanuts for the first time. Don't let the star rating prevent you from going, in writing this review, I just can't give it a 4 or 5 when Oyster Bar is in the name of your establishment and you don't have them available. Ben was our server and he did a nice job. He explained that the delivery guy didn't show up on Saturday and was supposed to be there today (Wednesday) but they didn't give him a time of arrival. He was helpful, saying that he'd get us anything we'd like. Minus the raw oysters of course. - We did enjoy the boiled peanuts, a first for us and fried oysters as well as a clam basket, shrimp basket and a knuckle of crab legs. Oh, also some clam chowder. All really good, and served hot and pretty quickly. Looked to be a local spot, with some other travellers like us stopping in. The small family (3) next to us were from the area and had been several times, they mentioned the oyster buckets varied in quantity 20-30 depending on oyster size. They mentioned that Wednesday, the day we were there, is bucket day (when they have oysters) for $21. It doesn't sound like the lack of oysters is a regular thing, but if you are going, you may want to call them to confirm, at least if you are reading this review this week. We live in Vermont, and I had sought out this place while on vacation, our plans won't allow for another trip back out until we are in Florida again, when I hope we can go back and I can post a 5-star review. If you go and use Waze or another geo app, it is a little confusing because the location isn't obvious, Waze was spot on though, and while this kind of feels like a dive location, if they have oysters, I'd recommend it. It's not fancy, but...
Read moreFirst of all, any restaurant review from me will be mostly based on the quality of the food and the cost. So I will not average out my stars between food, service, and atmosphere. I will usually base my overall rating on whether or not I enjoyed my meal and if I will return. So don’t be deceived if you see 2 stars on the atmosphere. This place is literally a hole in the wall type of dive that if you were judging by appearance, you’d NEVER stop here voluntarily. It is in a very obscure area of Clermont and the building is sandwiched in between an electrical company and some other type of run down business like an old laundromat or something like that. I’ve been in Clermont three years and I’ve never once driven down this road so it was quite surprising to find a restaurant here. But I was quite happy after experiencing the oyster bar. It has a very good reputation with the locals but primarily because of the food quality. We had a party of seven. We ordered the crab legs which are pictured, the shrimp tacos, the fish tacos, some steamed oysters, the fish dip, fried mushrooms, and a couple of appetizer trios. I will start with the oysters. I am not an expert on oysters. In fact, this is really the first time I’ve eaten them the way that they are intended to be eaten. I will say that I like them. I am a bit picky when it comes to textures so I was certainly apprehensive about oysters. They are very fresh and based on what I know, they are very well prepared. The crab legs were as good as anywhere I’ve ever had them. They are only snow crab so they aren’t huge and most places that serve snow crab legs they are hit or miss with the amount of crab meat you get out of them. These are EXCELLENT. I don’t think I’ve had snow crab that was this easy to crack and eat. I loved them! Actually, everything we ordered was FANTASTIC. If you’re looking for good seafood, the oyster bar is as good as it gets in Clermont. I don’t know how you can get better. The building itself is a total dump. It appears to be pieced together throughout the years and even the restrooms are a trailer that was placed in the courtyard right off the dining area. I’m not sure I would even and use them. But at least they’re outside. It’s also not real clean. It’s so old that it’s probably hard to keep the place looking clean. But the food is so good that I personally can overlook the building. I’ll...
Read moreThis was a BEAUTIFUL location to have
Looked up online. Travel to. Eaten at. Sit and talk at. Have fun at.
Look, folks, I'm going to start like this, if you know you have children that you have NOT instilled discipline in, DO NOT Bring them here.
This is an Adult, chill, eat, and relaxed location.
There is no law in Florida for minors to be in a location such as this as long as they are not consuming alcohol.
Ok, now the food. IT WAS DELICIOUS 😋!!!!
Adult beverages. Pound of fried shrimp 🍤. Pound of shrimp scampi 🍤. Two cups of clam chowder. NICE size clams inside NOT those little pieces like other places.
The other patrons were striking up conversations with ALL.
The three Televisions had two separate collage football games on, MORE conversation.
The place DID NOT smell of seafood.
The first young man said that he could smell it, tho, but I could not, and I have a good smeller.
I gave him some home remedies that will help clear the air and cost next to nothing. That's for you, guy, so you know this is me, if you read this. )
The two young Fellas behine the bar ( Pictured) provide very nice customer service 👍🏾 👌🏾.
Folks, this is a small place to eat good food, with a larger outdoor seating area.
It is what we call a hole in the wall location (not a negative term ) And it is oh so good.
The wife and I had such a good time with relaxing and eating good food that we determined if we lived close in this state of Florida, we would probably eat here at least twice per month if not more
Go and...
