I've always wanted to try Bo Loong and finally got the opportunity after an afternoon cruise with my wife on the Goodtime III. We were the only patrons dining in at the time, so it started out as a nice pleasant evening. However, the atmosphere became a little more chilly upon being seated. My wife and I both got the feeling we were intruding on the staffs' peace and quiet, as we were not greeted at all, nor was there even a small smile on the woman who seated us and also became our waitress. Except for a few moments after we left, she was not at all a very friendly individual at all. She took our rather large order as if annoyed by all of our choices and the fact she would be stuck serving us. The food began to arrive quickly, but in disarray. My wife got her Won Ton soup, then came my Shrimp with Snow Pea Pods entree, before the egg rolls, shrimp toast and my larger Shrimp Noodle soup. Lastly, came my wife's Pork with Chinese Vegetables. This caused some of our food to end up being slightly cool when we finally got to it. Asking for a fork and my wife already having opened her chop sticks to stir her tea, provoked an irritated sigh from our waitress who was apparently upset with my wife wasting a good pair of chop sticks. Nevertheless, we held on to hopes for good food, and we were not disappointed. The Shrimp Noodle soup was wonderful, with a tasty broth and dumplings made of shrimp and a tender green vegetable, which tasted like Bok Choy. The Shrimp Wanton soup was again filled with a wonderful broth and delicious dumplings. The egg rolls were a bit of a disappointment, as was the Shrimp Toast, but both our entrees were outstanding, as was the Yung Chow rice (if I'm remembering the name correctly), which was some of the best fried rice I've ever eaten. The whole meal was very satisfying. Now getting out of the place became an issue. Though there was no one in the place but us and while our waitress held a long conversation in Chinese with another waitress, we sat and waited for the bill. About 15 minutes later, after a few hard stares from us, they ended their talk and we were brought the bill, but no fortune cookie, which considering our experience up to that point, wasn't a surprise. Packing our leftovers was also another seemingly difficult task for our waitress and her friend. She took our money, I left not a usual lower tip and off we want. A younger man who worked there was the first person who offered us a smile and good wishes. Our waitress finally seemed to snap out of her funk, when she held the door for us and wished us a good evening. All in all, a very odd night at Bo Loong, but despite some negatives, we do recommend that others go there to experience some...
Read moreAs frequent readers of my reviews know, I am always seeking out for vegetarian spots; this is why I often defer to Asian, Lebanese or Mexican cuisine when traveling around as they have plenty of options.
To start, I'm going to say that the vegetarian Chow Mein combo dish I had was quite good. The food tasted fresh and the water chestnuts were crisp. The rice was on point as well, and quite flavourful. In fact the egg roll was a nice, solid vegetarian one that was better then others I've had.
The disappointment came when the spring rolls that came out, which I had thought would be vegetarian, had pork in them when I took a bite. Part of this was my fault; most of the places I eat stock the spring rolls purposely as vegetarian and the egg rolls as not. So I did bring this up to the waitress, and she simply said, simply but not harshly, that the spring rolls they stock all have pork. They didn't offer to switch them to the vegetarian egg rolls, and they still charged me for them. This I found to be a bit on the "not customer friendly" side. To be clear, they were all nice and polite, so I am not saying they weren't customer friendly, however charging someone for something that you just told them you can't eat, still falls into that camp.
The other thing I was a bit concerned over was the fact that they had seemed to have run out of paper towels in the rest room, and it hadn't been restocked. That would also be an opportunity to look for...
Read moreI had the worst experience today at Bo Loong. The service was terrible. I got up numerous times to ask for something. They sat us in the corner and almost forgot about us. 15 minutes of no one coming over to take out orders or check on us. I got up and ask if someone could come take our order. They also had dim sum carts rolling around and obviously service was taking a long time. We got there about 1:30pm and didnt leave until 3:40. 2 hours of sitting right next to a dump table. (When other guest left, they rolled up the table cover into a ball and it went on the table right next to ours.) The restaurants was empty on our side. But they decided to put it next to us. When I went up to pay with a card, the lady said "put cash tip on the table" as if they deserves a tip in the first place. They didnt deserve a dime in my opinion. But. Instead I left $10 for a $157 bill. The lady grab the tip as we were leaving and she made a huge fuss about the tip in front of everyone. I told her at was small because the service was bad. She continued to make a huge fuss by going to the other servers speaking. half english and another language. All i got was bad service out of it. I've been coming here since I was a kid. The...
