What a devastating place to visit when entertaining family from out of town. My husband and I are chefs and restaurant managers, so our Shaker host, my sister-in-law searched for a great place to share with us and found Cleveland Breakfast Club.
Visiting with my sister, her two small children, and my husband, the server Brianna W took her time to visit us, but we and the kids were patient. Knowing how hungry they were, we ordered their pancakes before anything else. Later, we put in our drinks and food, including two rose mimosas (rose, white cranberry juice and a cherry) and a spinach salad with pecans.
Two of the three beverages were delivered, but surprisingly, it wasn't the two mimosas, it was just one of the and my husband's beverage. The mimosa was dark red, (indicating red cranberry juice) no cherry, and it was room temperature, then Brianna W said they're still working on the second one. We thought they knew it was made wrong and needed to get more ingredients. Then the salad was delivered out of no where. We asked them to wait because it made the children anxious since they'd been waiting 45 minutes for their pancakes, but the food runner argued and I had to hide it on the windowsill to keep it away from the kids who were losing their patience. The rest of the food was delivered all at the same time about 20 minutes later, and the missing mimosa after that. But the mimosa was still just red cranberry and rose. Those drinks weren't worth the $10/ea that we were charged.
Brianna W didn't come back until she wanted me to pay. That's when she noticed that none of the salad was eaten. It was a half pound of candied pecans, with a few chunks of sweet potato, drowned in agave syrup, with a small portion of spinach. It was a bowl of candy and entirely inedible. Brianna W asked if she should take it off the bill, and I told her yes.
I select my receipt to be printed, but of course, we wait a long time. My husband finds and asks the manager, possibly the owner, for the receipt, who told him she's working on it. Toast prints receipts when the option is selected by the customer, not sure why it that took so long. When she does return, she said I'm responsible for 50% of the candy bowl.
On the flipside, my husband's catfish and grits was tasty.
Without explaining too much about restaurant standards, this was simply an overall...
Read moreOct 13, 2025 we stopped for a quick breakfast here because we'd never been and we wanted to support a local business. A number of factors need to be considered to provide the overall experience we had:
Walking in at 9:30 we noticed only 2 people at the counter; the rest of the (large) space was completely empty. This time of day is usually the busiest time for breakfast. By the time we left there were only 4 other tables taken, with a total of 8 guests.
A trip to the bathroom should have had me running out. The condition of the room was horrifying for a public eatery. They had painted over the original black and white tiles, but the paint was peeling off in strips in some places more than a foot or two from the ground. The baseboards were rotted and filthy looking. While the room was "neat" I can't say I felt it was particularly clean.
The menu was overly worn, and continued the general feeling of neglect. At the prices they charged for a simple breakfast, printing new menus daily would have been a better bet. But, really, just pony up for new menus when they start looking warped and dirty.
Service was the only positive. We were seated immediately, though it was empty, and the server was pleasant and offered on several occasions to refill our coffee, which was underwhelming.
As I mentioned in #3, the food was pricey. We both got the 3 eggs, choice of meat, grits (which never mentioned were loaded w/cheese), and toast. While I love cheesy grits, my husband does not. Also the grits were so thick we could have sliced them and fried them. My husband thought his scrambled eggs tasted odd, but my over-easy were perfect. However, for $14, I expected better than cheap white bread toast, and our turkey sausage tasted flat and unappetizing.
Lastly, we didn't realize there was an automatic service charge added to our check, so after our breakfast and a tip we added, our bill for 2 simple breakfast came to $44.
We won't be back, which is too bad because this could be a great neighborhood gathering spot. It looks like they're struggling by overcharging for mediocre food and neglecting the...
Read moreI wanted to like this place and was excited to try. It was an unfortunately disappointing experience, so I’ll give the facts. I called to place an order, but was told I need to order online. No problem. Placed an online order, said it would be ready at 10:40. I get there probably around 10:45, tell them my name and they ask if I ordered through DoorDash, I said yea. It seemed like they hadn’t seen my order yet, which was slightly annoying but I knew that they were a new restaurant, so I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and I remained patient. 40 minutes go by and no food. When I first walked in, it wasn’t too full, several dine-in tables, no one else there for picking up takeout. I could see they had several take-out orders lined up, so they were busy. I asked a couple times while I was waiting just for a time check for how long it would be, and I didn’t get an answer until 40 min had gone by and they said 5 minutes. There were other people at this point waiting longer than expected for their takeout food as well. I feel bad for the waitresses, because I don’t think it’s their fault. It seemed like the kitchen was not organized and not on top of their game, and I overheard a waitress scolding them for things like double-making orders. I don’t know if it’s a management problem, or if there is no head cook, but there needs to be more oversight or something to hold people accountable. Running restaurants is not easy, and it’s hard when you’re new. But when I can see chefs and cooks joking and not really putting the work and focus in that’s necessary when you’re that busy, I see a problem that needs to be addressed. The pancakes were very yummy, but rest of food was undercooked/wasn’t cooked the way we requested. I hope they can get better and more organized overtime and maybe I’ll try them again in due time because it seems like the food is really good. The efficiency, execution and communication is lacking though. I would have had a better experience if they simply gave me time checks for how long it would be. Just that little bit of...
