My first time here I was really looking forward to it . The lady was nice who took my order over the phone and she told us the time the order would be ready. I ordered gyoza and chicken yaktouri , although I didn’t ask how many yaktouri I get because I assumed for the price it would be a good amount, that was a mistake . I was informed of how many gyoza (3) but again for the price I thought they would be a good size-it was more of sample size . I was very disappointed ! After arriving at the time the lady who took our order told us to arrive . First I opened up by bag to see if the sake I ordered was in it . Upon opening it , it was the wrong sake (14 dollars a bottle I don’t expect the wrong sake ) , she apologised and gave me the right one , but if I wouldn’t have checked I would have gone home and not Been happy . Furthermore, the food is a very awful portion size for the price! The gyoza was the size of small pea pods , and only two yaktouri skewers ! I was expecting more or a larger size for the price . On top of it all the food was not even warm , it was cold ! If you are hungry don’t go care unless you plan to spend more than 50 dollars a person .Please look at the bad reviews first because they are the true ones , don’t be fooled by the...
Read moreThe owner, Brenda, is an amazing woman who runs the restaurant so smoothly you’d never know it was she. Her husband, and co-owner is head chef and creator of all the dishes. He makes the most beautiful presentations I've ever seen, from the drinks, with edible flowers in them, to the desserts. The servers were outstanding as well, very knowledgeable & patient & willing to answer my many questions. One dish we had was the sesame seed crusted salmon w/orange peels and syrup and bok choy (think it was a salmon steak), which was the most tender and stunning piece of fish ever. I am posting a pic of it. The other dish was a Japanese round thick noodle w/peanut sauce, mixed veggies (which was just a garnish) and shrimp. It was “to die for”.…best peanut sauce i ever had. Obviously we can’t say enough good things about Sasa other than u will absolutely not b disappointed, but o so pleasantly pleased. We ended our meal w/the creme brulee trio, chocolate, green tea, and vanilla…what a surprise with the green tea…who knew. The flavor of the green tea mixed w/the brulee on top was amazing. We highly recommend visiting Sasa at Shaker Square and enjoying...
Read moreMaybe my expectations were too high. Based on Nigiri Sushi prices, I thought it was a high-end Japanese restaurant, but it was more like a casual Asian diner with high prices. We went there for my boyfriend's birthday on Wed evening and they were not busy at all. Overall, service and food was okay level but not worth $160 for two people out the door. We ordered some nigiri sushi and their special roll but nothing was impressive. Ika Shogayaki (Calamari sauteed with ginger) was cooked too much and became tough and instead of ginger, they used very sweet teriyaki sauce.
It was very strange that a server person poured too much soy sauce into our individual trays. I much rather prefer that they leave a soy sauce bottle on the table. I am Japanese so I know what sushi should be. They also put too much rice on each nigiri; sushi should be eaten with one bite but it was too big. The best thing we ordered was "SASA Fries" which my friend recommended. However, it was frustrating for me that $13 French Fries were the best among all the dishes we ordered. We may go back for French Fries but...
