Read moreWe went as first-timers on a Wednesday night when they have live accordion music! They also offer on that night "old world beer and food specials", but I was in the mood for a burger. Sometimes a basic item like that is also a test of whether the kitchen is paying attention. My burger was thin, like a frozen patty, and if so that's okay, but when ordered medium rare, it can be hard not to overcook it. Turns out, it was perfectly cooked. It was nothing stupendous, but it was good; not over or under-seasoned. The fries that came with it were a bit salty, but I wasn't too interested in them because we ordered the house potato chips with yummy French onion dip. Think of flash-fried ruffles, and that's the idea.
The service was so-so. The bartender got our water and gave us menus, but there was only 1 waitress for the whole place it seemed. We weren't in any hurry so it wasn't a problem. The crowd ranged in age from 20-somethings to an older couple, enjoying the polka tunes. (-whispering- And nary a hipster in sight.... Sssh)
The best thing about PSC is the décor. Plenty of paneling, old beer signs and an old-school bowling game. My dad used to have one of those revolving Stroh's beer signs and a Budweiser sign with revolving Clydesdales. You might find yourself asking if you've fallen through a wormhole and landed in your grandfather's basement. Well, if your grandfather likes beer and unpretentious, throwback style then maybe so. We definitely plan to return. In fact, we said "I think we've found our new watering hole!" having recently moved back to Cleveland, the PSC seems in a short,...
Read moreIf I could rate this spot a two and a half I would do it. Visited recently with two friends, both had been to PSC before. The atmosphere is really cool and throw back. That seem to be the best thing about it. It was an early Sunday evening with very few people in the restaurant. Service was poor. While we were greeted promptly after that the service seemed to go downhill. Our server was always standing with her back to us at the bar so we had a hard time trying to get her attention for our needs. She was pleasant but just not attentive. As to the food, not sure anyone's ethnic grandmother would applaud their attempts at putting together a true ethnic platter. My male friend ordered noodles and kielbasa. At $13 there were tons of noodles and perhaps two ounces of kielbasa. He complained about the portion and intended to return it to the kitchen. The server suggested she would get more kielbasa for him, unfortunately it appeared on his bill at the end of the evening. My other guest had the large platter which she said was tasty. She had enjoyed this platter before but said this seemed to be a much smaller portion. I had the Tavern Burger. If you're going to serve homemade shoe string french fries please serve them hot and crisp. These were barely warm and limp. The Tavern Burger was okay at least it was served at a somewhat warm temperature. The famous milk bun fell apart under the weight of it. All in all I didn't find much to recommend this restaurant to others, they do have a large neighborhood following. Thankfully for...
