The space is incredibly inviting with fun and friendly bartenders, it's the perfect place to go for a fun evening with friends in Cleveland with easy to find parking nearby.
There are, however, a few criticisms that I have with the place as the bar feels in conflict with itself. One is the food and drinks. I was very excited for a new (and was hoping elevated) all vegan place in Cleveland as my girlfriend is vegetarian and most of the places in Cleveland are only brunch. But the selection was disappointingly an odd mostly breakfast-like menu, the food wasn't interesting and things like the "bacon" were disappointing texture wise. The homemade vegan butter was grainy and bland. Meanwhile most of the drinks have great presentation and taste with flowers and gold flakes served in a coupe (such as the Leo from the Zodiac menu), with some exceptions but even those are attractive to look at (I believe it was the Sagittarius that shocked our group when we tried it-how did it get off the drawing board tasting like lemon tahini syrup?)
Overall, I think I understand the down to earth vibe that they are trying to achieve but it feels like the place needs to reorganize itself: on one hand you need reservations (the time allotted is not enough for a meal and drinks with friends: this is the Midwest afterall, so pick one) on the other hand, the place is your typical small dive bar set up with nicer decor; the food is overpriced bland brunch but the cocktails are a hearty alcoholic pour of delicious elegant concoctions.
I would love a place that serves elevated cocktails and unique vegan dishes in a mystical little bar that requires reservations but caters to your experience. I would also understand a down to earth place you visit on a bar hop and try something unique in a basic cup. But the set up doesn't allow for both-except when they had their special no reservations events. In the end it could really use a better chef to curate the food selection.
In the end, I doubt anyone would walk away disappointed from a visit here, I have organized four outings here because it's a cool theme and a place Cleveland desperately needed to add to its bar scene. The bartenders are hilarious and fun people which is the strongest asset in my opinion. But I hope they do improve a few of the things I...
Read moreFirst thing to note is you definitely need reservations they accept walk-ins if they're not very busy but reservations are the best way to go it gives you premium seating and a guaranteed spot. Second the food is all vegan and it does not taste "vegan" because I know a lot of non vegan people think it tastes maybe not as good or sumptuous but trust me it's delicious and it doesn't matter that is vegan or not but as a vegan personally it's nice not to have to ask for no cheese or milk or egg etc it's nice just to be able to go in sit down order something to eat and enjoy it. Next the cocktails were fantastic they were delicious and well made and packed a punch and for the quality not very expensive. The atmosphere is very cool it's like a dark library bar with mood lighting cool decorations, seating to where you're able to see the whole bar... it's very small that's why I recommend the reservations again. But it has a very Victorian library feel to it is very cool. We were greeted with welcome shots of a whiskey sour which was delicious. We ordered the popcorn with red miso and sumac as an appetizer and it was fluffy and spicy and the perfect foil for my cold beer, which was a strohs for $3 a can, my daughter got the bando which is fried polenta and kill Buck valley mushrooms and homemade goat cheese. Our waitress did forget a drink that we ordered and we had to wait an additional 10 or 15 minutes to get it and we went on a Sunday at 9:00 so they were cleaning up and doing the closing chores which detracted away from the vibe just a tiniest amount but everybody was super pleasant and super friendly and the music was on point it's just a great date spot or just a nice spot to have great drinks in a small cozy atmosphere with people you just wanted to talk to. I brought my adult children and it was fantastic we had a great time. I will be coming back with them again to see...
Read moreVery amature. I rarely leave reviews, but was compelled to in this case because we wasted our time and money and hopefully my review will help others not do the same. We had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite a while based on a news story we saw, and it was very disappointing. It was basically a lot of hype for very expensive mediocre drinks with fancy literary descriptions. The menu states to let your server know if you have any food allergies. We did this and we were told there was nothing on the menu for us and the chef would make no accommodations. Upon asking her again and urging her to please check (we had made dinner reservations here, expecting to be able to eat), she said there was only one menu item they could serve us, soup broth, that was close to suitable to meet our dietary needs and again, that the chef would make no accommodations for us, including not leaving off miso powder which is sprinkled on the popcorn. Apparently, the popcorn is premade? After trying two of their drinks and being unimpressed (tasted like a sweet sangria and just an average cocktail) we thought surely, the bartender would be able to handle making a sidecar (three ingredients in simple ratios) and that wasn't made correctly and seemed rushed (maybe we were being punished for not ordering off the menu?). We didn't even end up finishing our drinks, left hungry and our bill was over $50. Do not spend your money or time here. The ambiance was interesting, but once you see it, there is no...
