HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Backstory: I absolutely love the J Alexanders in Boca Raton and have been going there for MANY years, including my graduation dinner, so my expectations were high. On September 26 I was driving to another restaurant nearby when I saw the sign. We made a U-turn, canceled our other reservation, and made a quick reservation on Open Table for 8:15 pm. I was so so excited. We walked in and the greeters were kind and welcoming. They gave me compliments on my hair and nails (super friendly). THE SAD PART! The wait time and food were a disappointment. We ordered at 8:18pm. Our shrimp appetizer came at 8:35pm (17 minutes). Our waitress never came back to check on us, and I had to wave down the manager (who seemed a bit flustered) to ask her about our entrees, even though the restaurant was half empty. No one was in our entire section at that time. 8:56pm When our order (a burger and a salad) finally arrived after about 38 minutes, the salad was wrong and poorly prepared. The manager apologized and promised bread while I waited and waited, but it was forgotten. At 9:08 pm (50 minutes after I ordered a salad) I had to physically got up and walked back to the kitchen to ask for some bread. When the bread came out, it was COLD. I was so so disappointed and my patience was running a bit low. My shrimp salad still had not arrived, so we asked to cash out because we were ready to leave. A minute later the salad came out but it was too late. We asked to check out, to make matters worse, our waitress (who never came to check on us during this entire process) presented us a full bill including the SALAD, he didn’t even eat his burger because he was waiting for me to get my salad, so his food was cold. It was so so sad! After years of loving the Boca Raton location, I was beyond disappointed with this one. Please get better

The defunct Joe’s Crab Shack is now home to J. Alexander’s, a steakhouse that has more than just steak. The bar has been set pretty low in surpassing its predecessor and J. Alexander’s easily crushes it on so many levels. The first thing you’ll notice is the flea market decor has been replaced with a much more aesthetically pleasing environment that will instantly make you feel welcome. It’s hard not to find a staff member as they seem to be plentiful and concerned that you have a pleasant dining experience. Been here twice and the food was spot on both times. The steak was high quality and I loved that it came out sliced. Now the chicken tenders that I received were deceptively described as a fried chicken platter on the menu, but appropriately labeled as chicken tenders on the receipt. Don’t get me wrong, they were delicious, but not what I was expecting. There are two sides that you MUST try. The coleslaw is one of the best tasting I’ve ever tasted. Anybody that can make shredded cabbage taste like a delicacy deserves my business. And the Mac and cheese was cheesy goodness that dreams are made of. Also tried their cheeseburger which was outstanding. Unreal flavor and the use of mustard on the bun was much appreciated. I’m not much of a condiment person, but they used them properly as it complemented the burger instead of overwhelming it. I saved the best for last—the desserts. Carrot cake tastes like homemade and the portion is hefty. Key lime pie tastes like it came directly from Florida. Great experience and amazing food will keep me coming back!

I recently visited J. Alexander’s in Clifton, NJ, and unfortunately, it was a pretty underwhelming experience. I started with the deviled eggs and Hong Kong shrimp. The deviled eggs were nothing special—my wife’s homemade version is easily a hundred times better. The Hong Kong shrimp tasted like a knockoff of Bonefish Grill’s Bang Bang Shrimp but lacked the same flavor and quality. For my main course, I had the prime rib, which was just subpar—nothing exciting or particularly memorable. The mashed potatoes were also disappointing, lacking the creamy, flavorful texture you’d expect from a place like this. On the drink side, things got frustrating. The beer selection was unclear, and the small card we received only listed specials for the evening. When I asked the waiter if they had anything else, he initially said no. Later, when I asked if they had a light beer similar to Coors Light, he checked and came back saying they actually did have Coors Light. I then asked for a full beer list, but apparently, that’s not something they provide to guests. If your server isn’t knowledgeable about the drink options, you’re left playing a guessing game with them running back and forth—definitely not ideal. Overall, my experience was disappointing, and I probably wouldn’t return or recommend this place to friends or family. There are plenty of other restaurants that offer better food, better service, and a more organized approach to their menu.

First time at this new restaurant in our neighborhood. We go out eat three or more times a week. We were anxious to try a new place that had been advertising for some months. But we were extremely DISAPPOINTED, and actually left after one drink each and an appetizer!! Service not so attentive. BUT, they are having a plumbing issue in the ladies room and the second you walk through the door you are hit with an odor that makes you want to vomit - IN A RESTAURANT!! How could they not have deodorizer or candles or something to desapiate the odor while they were open? No warning signs on the front doors or bathroom door; no one working to resolve - at a brand new place!!?? What are they thinking!? Never got to experience the dinner because we couldn't even think about what to eat after that. And on top of it, we asked to speak with a manager and it took 20 minutes for someone to come see what we needed, and all she said was "sorry" once. Not "what can I do to make you happy". She could have cared less for our disappointment. In addition, the bar staff was aloof with the one exception, Jeffery. He was pleasant, well mannered, professional, and very service oriented, willing to please. They are lucky to have him and their manager should take some lessons from him. Believe me, we wanted to walk out and not even pay my bill for our first cocktail and an app we had ordered, but this wasn't about beating the system, this is about expecting paying customers to tolerate such a horrific situation without compensating each and everyone that was present and willing to spend their hard earned money in substandard conditions. We should call the board of health on them. In all my years, I have NEVER experienced...
