I am been a loyal customer of Big Boy’s since I was 14 years old and I just turned 64…. After today’s dining experience, by restaurant selections may change…. We did DoorDash and the problems I had were not with DoorDash at all…it was the quality of the subpar food that we received…. My daughter and I both ordered the spaghetti dinner with extra sauce on the side and a salad with garlic & oil salad dressing…. We also ordered a Slim Jim sandwich to split because those sandwiches were always just so darn good…until today!!
What a huge disappointment the entire meal was…. The sandwich no longer has the flavorful ham…they switched to what appears to be extremely thin cut lunchmeat in a stack to resemble or fool the eye into thinking it’s the same ham…it is not the same and the first bite will confirm that…the cheese was always delicious and complimented the sandwich well…this cheese actually has NO flavor…how could that be…absolutely no flavor and the sauce (tarter sauce) that always pushed this sandwich over the top did not even taste the same either…either they are skimping on ingredients or changed the recipe and it’s not for the better…
Now for the spaghetti…the container that half the amount of spaghetti was literally swimming in lighted tinted orange water…. It’s like they did not drain the noodles and maybe put a small dollop of sauce on top that was then diluted because of the watery noddles…. You know when you empty your jar sauce in a pot and then add water to the sauce jar to shake it and get everything out of the jar…that is what the sauce looked like…it was nothing but orange water and is there is supposed to meat…I did NOT see any…. They also forgot the garlic bread that comes with both meals…. The only saving grace was the small container of sauce that we requested on the side…we drained the nasty watery sauce from the container…plated and added the side sauce to both dinners…
We both had a side salad which is also half the size of what it once was and we both ordered the garlic & oil salad dressing…. This used to be my favorite until today…it was nothing but spicy grease…. They added too much of one spice…there was no garlic taste and it was just greasy or oily and both salads were tossed in the garbage…
Needless to say…this entire meal was lackluster and a DISASTER…. I can understand having an off day, but everything we ordered was horrible and with the price increases that have been pretty consistent…it just does not seem to be worth the amount of money spent…. Because I am a longstanding customer…we will try one more time and if it’s another failure…we will have to waive goodbye to our Big Boy buddy we have enjoyed for many...
Read more"Big Boy" Off Hall Road, and Garfield. In Clinton Township! Let's, talk about one of the first smiling face's you see, when you walk in the Door...."Donte"! Works at the Register, but he doesn't "just ring- up/cash customer's out"! Oh, no! He answers the phone(s)! "Ring Ring"! He handles "Door Dash /Delivery" Pick-up's! He handles Customers calling in orders - directly...you know, "the old school way"...They call, Donte "picks-up", they ask questions about - what's on special, how much, is it any good ? This job, takes not only, the patience of a Saint, but you have to have, an engaging, friendly, helpful personality! Which he does! You can't learn all these "quality's at a 2 hour Orientation! You learn the "In's and Out's" of "your Big Boy" Restaurant, but "the people skills" - he learned that a long time ago! P.S. Donte gets along with the "Front of the House" - Waitresses & Bussers...He even gets along with the "Back of the House"! Chef's, Line Cook's, Dishwashers ! That takes talent!
O.K. You probably think, I must be a relative - giving such a "great review" about Donte? Nope. Just a "61 YEAR-OLD Grandma" (Not his) - who started in the Restaurant Business at 16 years old, at : The... "Beef 'n' Bird Restaurant". Off Southfield Rd. (Just North of 696 about 3 Blocks)! Of course, 696 didn't even exist then! I know, hard to believe! I earned a Quarter from every customer - who's Tray I'd carry, from the Buffet Line. I'd stand there, wait for the Customers to pay their bill. Cash-out. Then, I'd follow them (holding/carrying their tray)...They'd pick a table, I'd wait till they sat down. Got settled. Then, I'd "Put their drink, plates, and bowls, and rolled silverware down - in front of them. Tell them, "I hoped they enjoy their meal"! Then, they gave me "a quarter"! I refilled their Coffee, or Soda's. "The girl's, (the other "Waitresses, and I - rotated - taking turns, for carrying tray's, and getting "those quarters", so it would be fair! We bussed the tables, and wiped them down. We made $ 1.75 an hour - towards our paychecks! The good old days!
Enough, about me...I know a "good soul" when I meet one! You have to be one - to be successful in The Restaurant Business! "Donte" is just that! Sincerely, Megan...
Read moreAbsolutly love this big boy. Waitresses are very nice and friendly, prompt, and helpful. Food is excellent. Ok, that being said, me and my family just had a horrible experience their about 15 minutes ago with one of the managers. Cant remember her name, but she is a short female with dark hair, only manager there that fits this description. Anyhow, there was an accident at our table right before we left, waitress spilled pop all over the place and got 2 of us soaked with pop. The waitress said that she had set something up at the front to compensate for the accident, ok, no problem. Thank you. We get to the front and the manager, the short lady with dark hair and looked to be in her late 30s to mid 40s, refused to honor the compensation. Instead, she was very rude and ignorant and was making fun of people with mental disabilities. I told her that that was not acceptable and was very offensive, and that i am in fact mentally disabled. Then instead of apologizing, she continued to insult me for being "a worthless retard that is too stupid to contribute to society". I dont get it. Who in their right mind made this lady a manager?!? Everyone else tho is very nice and considerate. But i guess everywhere you go, there will always be that one bad apple. I will never interact with this person again and will avoid her as best as i can. Sorry for the long rant, still pretty upset. I almost cried in the car on the way home. The lady was...
