Elaine's Bagel — Restaurant in Clinton Township

If I could give zero stars, I would!!! I had a truly awful experience at Elaine’s Bagels today and will never return!!! I placed a simple order for three bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwiches. While the older woman behind the counter began preparing our food, my 11-year-old son pointed out that she wasn’t wearing gloves. I let it slide, assuming she had washed her hands.

Then I witnessed something so repulsive, I genuinely thought I was being pranked. She turned her back to us, took a swig directly from a plastic milk container, and then—shockingly—poured that same milk into the eggs she was about to cook for our sandwiches. I have never seen something so unsanitary happen in a restaurant before. When I asked her if that was our food and why she had just drunk from the container, she casually replied that she was “making sure it wasn’t expired.”

I was stunned. I asked if she seriously thought that was an acceptable way to check milk, and she just looked at me with a blank, almost defiant stare. I told her it was absolutely disgusting and made it very clear we would never return.

This kind of behavior is not only unsanitary but completely unacceptable for any food establishment!!!! If basic food safety isn’t a priority here, I can’t imagine what else goes on behind the scenes. Avoid this place at...

This place has terrible customer service and what they charge is ridiculous! I used to come here on my way to work quite often, even though every time I'd come the bagels would taste worse and worse. But it was extremely close to my work so I'd go anyways bc I'd buy bagels for all of my coworkers. Well the last 2 times I went, the 1st time I got 6 bagels with cream cheese and it cost me $10-11? And the cream cheese was only enough for about 3 bagels. And that was spread extremely thin. So the 2nd time I went there I ordered the SAME thing, and they charged me $19?!?!?! How is that possible?!?! I even said something to the lady working behind the counter, who was very rude, and she tried telling me that it was bc I asked for enough cream cheese for all 6 bagels? Which I even told her both times that I only needed 5! I'm sorry, if I'm going to buy 6 bagels then I need cream cheese for them all? So I guess if you want a stale bagel, then expect to spend over $4!?!? I told them that I'd never be back,...

I was really excited to try this bagel shop, but my experience was a huge disappointment. First off, their bagels are displayed so far back that you can’t even get a good look at them before you buy. I decided to give them a shot anyway, but when I got home, I was shocked. The bagels were completely flat—like someone had stepped on them. They didn’t have the fluffy, chewy texture a good bagel should have, and the flavor was equally lackluster. It’s hard to understand how a place that specializes in bagels could get them so wrong. On top of that, the fact that they keep the bagels out of sight feels deceptive, like they don’t want you to notice how poor the quality is until after you’ve paid.
