A Second Chance at Aura: A Phenomenal Culinary Experience
Although my first experience at Aura was not great, I decided to give it another chance since it was their first week of operation. On my second visit, I was accompanied by my business partner, her fiancé, and a good friend who is a DJ. From the moment we arrived, the waiter recognized me from 515alive and kosmic kingdom and inquired about our events. It was a pleasant surprise and set the tone for the exceptional service we received, along with the excellent food and inviting atmosphere.
Aura has a similar upscale vibe to Trostel's Dish, but the menu items are a bit more substantial. Every dish we ordered was well-prepared and delicious, making it a perfect spot for a quiet night out for a couple or a gathering of friends. The long and spacious bar, along with the booth and table-style seating, make it an ideal venue for larger groups. The menu itself is unique, with something for everyone. We were all delighted with the inventive cocktails and phenomenal food options, leaving us excited to have this new concept in Des Moines. This has definitely become a regular spot for us.
The small plate selections on the menu were perfect for sharing, and we also enjoyed some of the regular plates and group options. The food quality and presentation were impressive, and coupled with the excellent service, it made for a memorable dining experience. All in all, I am glad I gave Aura another chance and was not disappointed. It is a must-try for anyone looking for a phenomenal culinary experience in a chic, inviting atmosphere. I highly recommend Aura and can't...

Read moreWas in town for 4 days and went here 3 of them. The first two visits were 5 stars 🌟 great food and great service. Everything was top shelf. The 3rd visit had a few issues. Most of the food was good but some of it needed to be returned and we passed on it coming back. They were short staffed which is unfortunate but that doesn't seem to ever change the check. We waited patiently but canceled a round of drinks and settled for the check. The manager did come over and apologize and they were very nice but at the end of they day, if you are spending $250.00 I really don't want to hear about the problems you have and why things were not up to par. I want to enjoy the evening that I am paying for. Business today are two quick to blame staff or hiring shortages but yet prices keep increasing and they say that is so they can pay their wages. Forgive me but if you are charging more and still have less staff, you are actually making more and service is lower. This is not a sustainable business model. Went to Smitty's for lunch and every table was full, people waiting, standing up, taking seats as fast as people got up, and they had 2 servers who also bussed the tables and ran the cash register. I guarantee that more people went through there in 3 hours and everyone seemed satisfied with their food, service and dining experience. It isn't the people you don't have, it is up to the people...
