I have to consider that businesses around the nation and world are still working around ambiguous and difficult state and local restrictions due to COVID-19.
I'm sure this restaurant had its good days. The day I visited wasn't it. El Pueblito was recommended by many people in the area, so my family had high expectations.
We were let down as soon as we were seated. Our friend and long time El Pueblito patron notified the host of our party of 8. The host say is in a dark corner of the restaurant. The restaurant seems dark and cold, anyway.
We had to ask for lights to be turned on. One light was turned on.
Chips are complimentary. They are served in bags. We had to ask for plates in order to share easier.
The menu is about average for a Mexican restaurant (ensaladas, sopas, combos especiales, mariscos, lunches, and dinners).
I ordered a enchilada, shredded beef taco, and chile rellano. Wife ordered shredded beef taco and enchilada. Mom ordered chicken taco salad. Dad ordered something boring...I can't remember. The combos came
The tacos were really good. Like, better than expected. The enchiladas were good. The chile rellano was terrible. Our friends were paying for the meal, so I wasn't going to complain, but the server asked why I didn't finish the dish.
I explained my dissatisfaction so the server told someone else and a fresh chile rellano was brought to me. It was just as bad. I can't explain what it was. Maybe it's made well in advance. Maybe they use sub standard ingredients. Who knows. It is just gross. I didn't complain again.
My mom's chicken taco salad was okay. The...
Read moreSalsa: 5/5 one of the best salsa's I've tasted in Fresno ... so far. Still scouting for my favorite Mexican restaurant though.
Carne Asada Plate: 1/5 probably the worst we've ever tasted. It was more like fajita style without the sizzling plate onions and pepper. Super thick and chewy strips of beef. Not your thin grilled steak that were used to. Hit a gristle on first bite. Portions were nice but it looked like sliced beef. Husband left all of it on his plate. Guacamole was "gross" he said. He immediately spat it out. I didn't want to try it because it looked odd. Asked waitress as we were expecting a thin steak. She was friendly but just said that's how we do it. She should've realized the only thing eaten on the plate were the rice and beans.
Chile Relleno/Cheese enchilada: 3/5 wanted to like it, but it was room temperature. The cheese wasn't soft in the Relleno.
Beans: 5/5 Super yummy and very flavorful!
Water: 0/5 their water tasted way off! I couldn't drink it. Raised in tap water and this water was just ... tainted. Oddly enough, the sauce on the Relleno and Enchilada had a hint of that taste to it as well.
Staff: 5/5 Everyone there is super nice and welcoming. It was very comfortable. All smiles and willing to help.
We really wanted to like it here. Probably would try again if it they fixed the water issue and address the asada. Prices and...
Read moreWhile visiting family in Clovis, our niece recommended El Pueblito Mexican restaurant for a late lunch on a Friday. There was 10 adults and 2 toddlers in our family group. The server was very polite and accommodating to our large group, there was literally no wait time and we sat at the back of the restaurant.
Just a warning, the food served in this restaurant is very "Americanized" as the tacos are not true Mexican tacos but there is shredded jack cheese on them. If you are vegetarian, the chef may get your order wrong (happened to two of our family members). The food is decent and the portion sizes are very large, our local family all ate the food and they liked it. If you are accustomed to authentic Mexican food, this may not be the spot for you. The staff was incredibly polite, friendly and accommodating in getting the right food back on the table for the vegetarian family members. We didn't have to wait very long for our meals and the total tab including the servers tip was very reasonable considering our large group and the mess left behind by the...
