Athens Diner — Restaurant in Colchester

When I walked in the atmosphere was very nice as it usually is and I was Greeted kindly and shown to my table. I was able to order what I wanted but I felt like I was bothering them to be honest because I Always have a few more requests than others.... But I usually tip more because of it.... I ordered my food and it came quicker than I expected but it wasn't as warm as I had expected and The biscuit I was given seemed like it had been put in the microwave but I could be wrong.... None the less I proceeded to eat my food and while I was eating my food there was a waitress cleaning Behind me... She was spraying something and all I could smell was the intense smell of this cleaning spray the entire time I was eating. The food was mid grade and the portions were small this time...... I have been to this place in the past and I have never had an issue. They have the best cream soda, And usually really nice big fluffy pancakes.... Maybe there was a new cook that day I'm not sure.. But it wasn't the best experience. Although I can't give it a one because that would not be being fair, The waitress was extremely kind although I did Not really appreciate being told that I couldn't be accommodated when I wanted half hot chocolate 1/2 coffee. I am a waitress and no matter what if I have those 2 items I will make it happen for the person. In the end I ended up explaining how she could do it for me and I got what I wanted. I am picky But also reasonable.... Overall experience I would give it a 4 Because I have been going here often on since I was a little girl and this was the only time that I had a bad experience. Their Breakfast skillets are usually on point, And like I said they have the best...

Give this place all your money!!! The quality of the food and how it's cooked and prepared takes you back at a time when food was made with love and delivered promptly. My girlfriend and I have big appetites. We left with a to go box and only paid a little over $50 for the both of us. Her and I have been in this state for going on 3 months and cannot find a decent restaurant anywhere here. Athens Dinner will be getting our money again. Hands down! Every time we return to this state, we will always make it a point to visit this diner and taste it's amazing quality food and beautiful service.

Classic Diner Experience, Classic Diner Vibes:

Swung by on a Saturday morning at 10am. Got seated quickly with no wait. Group of 3. Waitress was quick to take our drink and food orders.

Food came out impressively fast. Ordered the "Little Athenian" which was a great portion for the price.

Toast was fluffy and came pre-buttered which is nice to see. Eggs were perfectly over-easy. Homefries were great, although I wish I ordered mine more well-done. Pancake was lighty and fluffy, Maple Syrup provided, and easy to spread butter. Sausage links were some of the highest quality sausages I've seen from any diner in the area. Coffee is $3, but is free refills (Not worth it for 1 cup)

Waitress checked in multiple times and was very friendly.

Will be returning. 9/10.
