Ichiban — Restaurant in Colchester

This is kind of a weird review. My husband and I go here very often. Every time we have been there, no complaints whatsoever. Tonight we have had a TERRIBLE experience. First we get there and its rather slow. Took quite awhile to be greeted and drinks ordered, No big deal. We put in our drinks and appetizers and dinner orders. They came quickly as usual with the drinks. We waited for a long time just for our drinks (which was a water for me and a coke for my husband). Finally I drinks get there but no apps. At this point people that arrived after us have already gotten dinner and still no apps. After about 10 more mins our dinners come out. I mentioned to the waitress that we ordered appetizers. She told us it was okay they were coming. So we start eating out entrees because they came first. In the meantime the waitress refills my empty water cup and spills the whole glass on my husbands steak and rice. And than told us that it was okay he could still eat it. My husbands soda was empty she never requested to refill it. Finally after we just about finished eating our sushi came out. There was no apology for our appetizer coming after dinner. We awkwardly eat the dessert sushi. I have never had a bad experience at this place. I expressed our dissatisfactour. There was no apology whatsoever. So I did not leave a tip due to negligent service. This waitress confronted us about not leaving a tip which is totally unprofessional, rude and uncalled for. I told her that we are there very often and I always tip her well. But I am not paying for poor service. We left. Not sure if we are able to return to this...

Hands down, ICHIBAN is the very best Asian crossover restaurant in the Colchester CT area. I actually drive from East Haddam to Colchester in order to have my favorite Chinese foods. Also, they have selections of Japanese and Thai dishes. The sashimi is so incredibly fresh and ANY of the handrolls are spectacular! My favorites dishes are the pan sauteed pork dumplings, avocado salad, prawns with walnuts and spicy shrimp with broccoli. The Thai noodle and curry dishes will certainly satisfy your palette, as well. Service is excellent. I look forward to their reopening at some point, I really enjoy having lunch at their bar. Still in Co-vid 19 mode, but the owners and crew at ICHIBAN are meticulously following the pick up / take out guidelines for restaurants in CT. I applaud the restaurant for their hard work and efforts to continue one of my favorite food...

I placed a take out order over the phone and was told it would take 30 minutes, so it arrived right on time. However, the food I ordered was not made and only then did ask about the food I ordered. Then they said it would take another 15 minutes. I understood that it was busy, so I waited another 15 minutes, but no food came out. I waited another 30 minutes, but no food came out. I was so angry that I told them I was canceling the order and they just said ok. The ability to deal with customers is nowhere to be found. The wait was an hour, and including the 20-minute drive there, it was 1hr 30min It was a terrible experience. I used this place often but was disappointed.
