I was last there in 2018, and before that I was a consistent customer from 2012 to 2014 when I traveled to BCS. But this place has some of the best damn Asian dishes I've had, and there's nothing like this in Austin (where I'm at).
I have a few dishes I love here: The Boiled Fish in water is phenomenal. I love this dish, it's spicy good, the sauce is so flavorful and can be used for everything else - like adding noodles and rice. I usually take an extra dish home. The Kim Chee Fried Rice w/ egg on top is always solid here. The best I've had as it is flavorful.
The Fried Fish - or what used to be Salted Fish - which comes w/ onions and peppers is superb. I recall when I went back in 2018 the recipe had changed slightly but it was still solid. The Mapo Tofu is also a go-to of mine. Here the sauce is really zesty and flavorful, much better than other Mapo Tofu dishes I've had in other areas. The Beef Mushroom dish had changed recipes as the one I got was different than previous pics - different mushrooms and it tasted okay.
There are many other dishes here that look phenomenal but I'm eating for 1 and I cannot eat everything they have on a quick trip. The Beef Noodle Soup and Dumplings look phenomenal too. This is definitely one of my go-to places in the BCS area. Aggies are very lucky...
Read moreI really cannot emphasize how much I always enjoy coming here when I get the chance. Because it's in the depths of the BCS Asian Market store, there are no clear signs at the outside on how to find it, but once you do, you are in for a treat. They got almost 100+ of options of dishes, all made with most of the greens and meats sold at the store. Many of the options are catered to the Asian community as they are very authentic and variant in flavors. You are always greeted by very kind people.
If you feel very adventurous, try many of their authentic dishes such as the Douban fish, Mr and Mrs Smith (beef tendon and tripes), or something simple yet new like japchae (sweet potato noodles with beef).
By far one of my favorite spots to eat out in College Station.
You'll get the satisfaction of not only eating a new kind of food, but also have a chance to peek and get some greens and Asian cusine goods before or after your meal.
Attached is a pic of japchae I had last weekend. Looking...
Read moreWell, as an asian, I do sometimes cook stuff myself. Main thing for me to come to this mart, would be instant noodles, and the cheap nappa cabbage.
Let's talk about the good part. Nappa is very cheap compared to HEB, soy sauce, variety of vegetables.
Well the service is not that good. They have a weird rule 'not allowed to pay by credit card nor debit card unless you are buying $5 or more'. Wtf is that? Is that forcing you to spend $5 or more?
Another thing is, the shop owner (a Chinese ol' man) assumes that every pale asian is 'Chinese'. I am not Chinese but I look pale, when I was asking his stuff regarding instant noodles, he tried to speak chinese to me, and tell me angrily ''speak chinese! '' and then played word tricks with me (I wanted to buy a box of instant noodles)
''Are you going to buy the empty box? ....''
Well the old lady cashier was nice, but the old man was pretty rude. That's what...
