At the time of this rating, the overall was 3 stars, so I kept it at this to not change the customer's ratings. I write this as a former employee so as to help address some of the bad experiences guests may have had in the past. Hopefully this will help future guests. Do note it's been about four years since I worked here, more or less.
Price here is typically slightly higher than some motels on the same main street (these may not include free wifi or breakfast), but lower than newer hotels and those with better overall accommodations. If you are looking for a stay during football season or other peak times such as graduation, you may easily have to pay 4 times as much at any hotel or motel in this area during these times, so book as early as possible.
The establishment does not have elevators and the stairs may be too steep (as many stairs are in older buildings) for older people or anyone with knee problems. I suggest respectfully calling a day before or between noon and 3 pm on the day of your check-in and request a first floor room. If they can accommodate you, they will. If you're staying during peak time, call a couple of days ealier for any questions or requests if possible.
There are no meat options in the breakfast, but they are also walking distance from a diner, a donut place, and an Arby's, if I recall correctly. You wouldn't even need to cross the street for these.
If you book through a third-party like Expedia, and you choose to cancel or request a refund, you must call that third-party for the final transaction. It can be frustrating and disheartening to do this sometimes, so try to bring up the issue with staff and seek a solution if you're already checked in. Expect for there to be a delay in the processing of funds and if you have any questions regarding your account statements, the third-party customer service is usually more knowledgeable than the clerk.
If you book with a credit or debit card, you may see a pending transaction item in your account or something similar to this, but it is not until you are checked out that the full transaction goes through. This is so that, if you book directly with the motel, the clerk knows your card has the funds for the stay, but should you request a refund and it is approved, they can simply not charge your card by changing the amount of each night and you won't have the delay in accessing your funds with the now removed hold on them, best case scenario. You may ask for them to charge you immediately upon check-in so that this step is not confusing, but do note, it might take at least 3-5 business days to get your funds back if a refund is later warranted. Ask the clerk or manager for guidance in these situations, and it can be helpful to be stern but also respectful and clear when you talk with them. Any sign of hostility can put staff on edge and can also make communication between parties more difficult.
I've slept in some of the rooms before, and I can neither recommend nor disparage it. The owner and manager were good to me, and I could easily communicate with housekeeping and maintenance so helping guests came naturally. If you cannot afford some of the nicer hotels in College Station and have to book here, be kind. You may not get everything you want and pay more than you wish some days, but it was very rewarding to me when a guest could genuinely enjoy their stay, despite the occasional bug, stain, or smell. If you're faint of heart and pocket, maybe watch the game in the comfort of your home. No one here makes the money that some of the nicer hotels pay or have the tools or training that a non-franchise motel may utilize, so their best incentive is always the guest's gratitude. Still, working here I realized the limitations to appeal to every customer's requests, despite wanting to offer the best to the best customers. So do your best to be on the good side of staff but understand that extra accommodations may not be available at...
Read moreStayed at this motel because it was the only one available for an early check in in this area. The location here would be great, especially for pedestrians IF they didn't put a giant fence around the place, forcing you to walk to the front of the building before leaving to go anywhere else. Upon entry the TV did not work for some time, apparently the TV had to stop and install updates every day for some reason. Also, when the TV was turned up to 2 notches you couldn't hear it at all, it was basically mute. When turned up to 3 notches the TV was blaring loud. When I left and came back to my room, my key did not work. The manager quickly fixes my issue and I was able to get back in. During the first night I noticed a small bug on my bed, no big deal. The second night I noticed another bug on my bed., and some trash that was left behind the bed, indicating that the room was not thoroughly cleaned. I don't think the bugs, were bed bugs but I'm no expert. I think they were carpet beetles. Also, I saw the biggest fly that I've ever seen in my life during this stay. Another issue with my room was that the 'do not disturb sign' would not stay attached to my door. Furthermore, on the inside of the door there is a statement: "we are not responsible for any stolen items' or something to that effect. Overall this was a big red 🚩 to me, and also an indicator that anything in my room was up for grabs to any of the staff there.
I stated the issues I was having with my room with the front desk clerk, and requested to be put into a new room. He then gave me the runaround, or tried to give me the runaround, rather. Instead of accommodating my request and resolving the problem he stated that housekeeping would be by to clean up the mess. Then stated that maintenence might also be there today. I told him that I didn't want anyone in my room, and after he refused my request, I decided that this place was completely inhospitable to the point that it was in my best interest to go ahead and check out, so I did.
This place needs some SERIOUS renovations done. The management should at least put the two buildings together so it's at least possible for housekeeping to clean the place without having superhuman strength. When I saw the cleaning people pushing those laundry carts from one building to another it reminded me of the hard manual slave labor done by inmates in the Texas prison system. No wonder they can't keep the rooms clean! The health department should shut this place down until...
Read moreIf you are thinking about getting a room here please read this first. The location is great. Everything you could possibly need is less than a mile in each direction. The first room we were put in was on the bottom, which was nice since I am a disabled army veteran, but when we walked into the room it was filthy and I had to actually go to Walmart and buy a set of pins for the toilet seat because it was broke and kept sliding off the toilet. House keeping here is terrible 2 days in a row the same house keeper walked in our room on us telling us we needed to go up front and pay again after we had just booked online. When my wife went to the office to complain the guy in the office told her it was our fault that they walked in our room on us, thank God we were dressed. Our second time staying at this motel the lady without knocking or announcing herself after we had already paid for our room uses her key and just walked on in while we were sleeping at 3pm because I work nights, and scared the crap out of our 6 year old. Then walks back out like nothing happened. I don't know the legalities or what I can due legally to keep this from happening to others but I'm sure this isn't the first time this has happened to someone here I believe there has to be some kind of invasion of privacy law I am still looking into this to see if something can be done. I don't wanna go to the office and complain because they will just say it was our fault, and they are right I guess it's our fault for thinking they would respect the privacy of their guests. Rent here at your own risk is...
