We have always loved eating at Mooyah's and make a point of stopping in when we are driving to or through College Station. The burgers are delicious and every other time we have been there the service has been friendly...until last night (7/9/2020). We knew we would be driving through close to 8:45-8:50ish and new it would be cutting it close to closing time - but because we LOVE Mooyah's and wanted to get our fix, we called ahead to make sure that we would not be inconveniencing them by showing up 10-15 min prior to closing, and to make sure the kitchen would still be open. The person we spoke to on the phone said that it was not a problem, so we made a bee line to Mooyah's. We arrived right at 8:45 ready to order, and we identified ourselves as the ones who called about 30 min earlier.. We were immediately faced with less than enthusiastic greetings (which is unusual in my Mooyah's experience), but decided to be friendly and sally forth. Understanding that we were pushing the operating hour limits, we planned to grab our food and eat it quickly so as not to delay them more than necessary.
Our food took a little longer that usual to prepare, and when we asked about it, we were told "everything is already put up and we have to get it back out just for your order"....ok, that is understandable. I ordered an Iceburger and received my burger in a bun. When I brought it back to the counter to ask for my bun to be switched to a lettuce bun, the young man behind the counter was very reluctant to do anything saying "that's what you ordered". I said "maybe there was a misunderstanding, but I do want the lettuce bun, can you do that please?". When he handed my burger back to me - he had just added lettuce to the burger. I went back to the counter again, stating that I asked for a lettuce bun and the young man said (with attitude) "that's not what you said!" I told him I ordered by burger as an Iceburger so that is what I am asking for now. I reminded him that we called to make sure it was ok for us to come at the time we did. He took the burger abruptly and said "ok, but that's not what you said" and then started to walk away...At this point getting my food order correctly was taking far more time than it needed to and the rest of my party was almost finished with their food, so I said "nevermind, I don't want it anymore, I just want my money back. I went to the cashier (Cameron) and told him I just wanted my money back at this point. After asking for my ticket number, he was muttering under his breath about having to get everything back out because they were cleaning up when we got there. I reminded him that we did call ahead to make sure our arrival time would be ok and he said "Well, we were open then." I tried to clarify that we told them we would be coming at the time we arrived, but he kept talking over me saying "stop talking, stop talking, stop talking." I replied that it is not necessary to be rude, at which point he shoved my money at me and said "JUST TAKE YOUR MONEY AND GET OUT!" Wow! I was dumbfounded...there was absolutely no reason for him to speak to me (or any customer for that matter) that way. There is just no excuse. I stated that I would be making a call to the manager tomorrow at which point he walked away behind the kitchen. The line prep employee apologized for being short and rude, but Cameron never came back out.
If we had just been told when we called that the kitchen would be closed when we were planning to come, we would have been disappointed, but would have found somewhere else to eat, and hit Mooyah's on our next pass through knowing that we need to get there earlier in the future. Sadly, with the way we were treated on this visit, I doubt that we will return to...
Read moreI love Mooyah. We call it "Mooby's" as a joke reference to the old Jay & Silent Bob movies.
They need to add "Hot Dogs" to the name as they deserve a mention on their own!
Restaurant 5/5
The location is connected to a gas station. I personally love that I can fill up on gas, grab some supplies for the house and sit down to eat a great burger all in one place.
The inside has always been clean. The orders are accurate. You can watch them prepare the food if you like. There's even a chalk board wall where customers can contribute to the place's aesthetic.
Food 5/5
100% Certified Angus Beef. Never Frozen.
This is one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. And there's so many options to have it your way. Want something new? They're constantly providing new ideas as monthly specials. Want a low-carb option? They can replace the bun with lettuce!
Secret - Try the Sloppy Whoa chili burger. It's not usually on the menu.
If you aren't feeling a burger, they server Nathan's Hot Dogs and other sandwich options like Turkey and Chicken.
Share the fries. You get a ton. They like to warn you haha.
Drinks 4/5 (Non-Alcoholic)
The shakes here are a required side for me to a good burger. Try a Cookie Dough or Reese's shake.
I feel like offering some beer options would just make this place perfect. There's something about a good beer with a burger or dog.
Value 5/5
The prices are slightly higher than other fast food options, BUT it's worth every penny for the quality to recieve. You will not...
Read moreHad an order that was supposed to be ready at 7:18 pm for curbside pick up. Arrive at the location and call as instructed. No answer. Wait a few minutes and call again, two rings and then the line says they're not taking phone calls.
That's odd.
Go inside and see 24+ groups of people, ranging from single persons to couples to families, waiting around.
It has now been 30 minutes.
As I start to get near the front of the line a gentleman gets behind me and informs me that there is a fundraiser going on tonight for a local school, and he'd been there for 2 hours and 36 minutes exactly, that he was ticket number 48 and they were only on number 30.
I get to the front of the line, inform the counter of my name, pick up time, and order, and ask if it had been prepared. The person informs me that it had not and asks if I want to wait or get a refund. I chose the latter.
I have worked food service before for many years. This place was woefully underprepared to handle a fundraised and the amount of customers it would bring in physically, as well as online orders. I do not blame the workers for they are doing their best in a bad situation, but management should know better.
TL:DR; place wasn't prepared for a fundraiser, dinner rush, and online orders. 2+ hour wait for food while telling online orders it'd be ready a short...
