Mi Rodeo Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Colonial Heights

This is a pick-up only place just keep that in mind! No delivery option, but WORTH IT. Honestly, so worth it though. We were so sad when we moved away from our favorite Mexican restaurant in the East End of Henrico, but mi rodeo has filled our needs beautifully! My husband loves enchiladas here and said the beans ones are amazing don't sleep on them. He is gluten free/dairy free but mi rodeo is amazing at subbing and accommodating his restrictions. We order probably once every other month and are never disappointed. The steaks are a little on the fatter side would be my only complaint via the Arroz Texaco or Cazuelon Mi Rodeo. Pollo Azado is amazing! The rice is always rich in flavor and never dry. The refined beans and black beans are also great! Just note that if you have a dairy restriction to note that in the order for beans because they normally mix it in the beans. The fajitas are great and very filling! Just order extra rice because I want to say it doesn't come with any on it's own just a nice size of the fajitas. The family who runs this is very kind and accommodating. We've given a lot of Mexican restaurants a try in this area but if we want the best of it we go to Mi Rodeo we just do rock, paper, scissors to decide who has to go pick it up! Ha. I've never been to this restaurant before. I lived in San Diego for 35 years and have had some of the best Mexican food there. My favorite has always been Carne Asada Burritos. I moved to Virginia 28 years ago and no one even knew what a tortilla was back then. I've tried Mexican restaurants around here and walked out when they didn't know what Carne Asada was. Thankfully when I walked into this place they had Carne Asada but not in their burritos. So I ordered Chile Rellenos. Almost perfect. One chile wasn't cooked long enough and wasn't tender. Otherwise the meal was great. They gave me a white sauce for my chips that I've never had before. It was sweet with a bite to it. I was surprised. It tastes really good. The place is very clean and my waiter was helpful and friendly. I'll definitely be visiting this place again even though it's 50 miles away. I want to try more items...

I went here for a quick dinner earlier this week and I will be back. First, I went close to closing. Some places you go and you feel rushed or unwelcome if it is late. Not here. We got quick service and felt very welcome. Second, the restaurant is smaller and I really loved the homelike vibe it had. Third, there's there's actual food. I drink unsweet tea. Some places the unsweet tea tastes old, but not here. It was fresh and refreshing. The white sauce (you know the stuff) was right on the mark. Had a little kick. Tangy. Perfect. But there's only one thing that will keep me coming back to a Mexican restaurant. Tacos al pastor. These were A++ tacos al pastor. Easily the best I've ever had in central Virginia.
