We have been going to HuHot, particularly this location, for over 14 years. However, my husband had bariatric surgery around three years ago, and HuHot was not accommodating to his situation. However, our kids love this place so we would go eat in the dining room while my husband watched us and then got his meal to go at the very end for takeout. This was how we were accommodated after I added a review, which I can no longer find, because the general manager of this HuHot stuck to corporate guidelines and would not budge, even though this was one of our most favorite restaurants and we had been loyal for many years. However, myself, and my kids felt so guilty for having my husband just sit there while we ate. So, we have not been to HuHot for over two years. This year, one of my kids chose HuHot for their birthday dinner with some gentle encouragement from my husband to pick what they wanted and to not worry about him.
This year was different. We sat down and we advised the waiter that my husband would be getting his to go at the end of the meal. The waiter was hesitant as he explained they have strict rules on take out, but he accommodated us. I told him we understood and I vocalized that the manager is a jerk (we saw the manager was still there).
Well, while the kids and were getting our food, my husband told the waiter he had bariatric surgery, which is why we did this arrangement. Wow, the attitude changed. The waiter gave my husband his to go container right away and they let him eat his 5 bites (that’s what he can handle) with us, and let him take the rest home.
Come to find out, the general manager was now the owner of this franchise and had changed the rules for bariatric customers! The owner approached my husband while he was getting food and also came to our table to talk to us after we were all seated. He said he had not seen us in a while and he remembered the review I made years ago. He was kind and explained he was now the owner and his hands were tied back then because corporate had a no tolerance policy with take out.
My husband and I were impressed that he even remembered us, had made these changes specifically for bariatric patrons, and that he approached us to have this conversation. Honestly, it was pleasantly unexpected. I was not nice in my previous review.
We have added HuHot back into our rotation and again, very impressed with this interaction. I take back what I said, the manager is not a jerk. In fact, probably one of the few out there that still cares and isn’t afraid of facing his customers. Much respect and appreciation for this HuHot and its management. Thank you...
Read moreThis is our second time visiting this place. My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch.
The waiter was welcoming and attentive to anything we needed. He kept our drinks topped off and was very friendly.
The self service food area was in disarray but everything looked fairly fresh. The floors could have used some cleaning.
There was only three or four tables occupied in the restaurant so it wasn’t too busy.
My biggest issue was that my wife’s food wasn’t cooked enough. The chicken was cold and the vegetables were crisp. Not what we expected. She literally ate as much as she could but wasn’t happy and didn’t want to get anything else. The experience ruined her meal.
I decided to head up for a second plate. I asked the cook kindly to be sure to cook it thoroughly because last time there was some issues. He said “okay” and dropped the bowl onto the cooktop. He then pointed to a guy and motioned for him to take over. I presumed that he didn’t convey the request to cook it longer so I once again asked the second cook if he could cook it a little longer this time. He nodded and the first guy said “I told him, we have a system here” I said okay thanks, I just wanted to make sure because I didn’t see that conversation take place and you didn’t seem to care the first time I mentioned that our food wasn’t cooked enough. He walked off and went back to his conversation with two other guys where they appeared to be cutting up and making jokes.
The biggest issue I had was that the cooks wanted to screw around and BS with each other and they didn’t focus on cooking the food. They have those tip jars out but they didn’t do much to earn a tip. I tipped the first time before the food was served up but I didn’t the second time.
Fortunately I was able to share my second plate with my wife so that she could get enough to eat.
Our experience was a disappointment because of the cooks. We probably won’t be back...
Read moreAn absolute treat! We got a coupon in the mail so the whole family went out for the night without breaking the bank.
The food was really good with lots of selection and flavor. Mom made her first bowl a little too spicy, but they brought extra rice to the table to help her tone it down.
The grill workers were a JOY to watch and seemed to be having a blast while making our food turn out wonderfully. (Anything with the beef slices is to die for!) Even after they hand you the cooked bowl, they let you know the "crunchies are at the end" in the event you wanted to add peanuts or fried chow mein noodles.
When I asked to speak to the manager on duty at the end (to tell them how amazing everything had been) it turned out one of the grill workers named Anthony.
Our server (Brian? Bryan? Has a neat tattoo with the card suits on their left upper arm.) was super sweet and seemed to really care. They checked on us frequently and we never had to ask for refills because they were already there!
There were a couple mix-ups, but nothing enough to take away from the evening!
If I had a complaint? The buffet was a mess! Not unusable, but not as good as last time. (I really appreciate the gloves and hand sanitizer offered, they were great!) However, everything was mixed. There were bits of crab meat in the beef and cranberries all over the tiny corns. I think that might have been due to how late it was, but compared to everything else, it was a bit jarring.
I waited until the morning after to write this review and am happy to report that no one in our party of five got food-sick. (One time almost two years ago we ALL got sick at the location near the Chapel...
