TL:DR: service 50:50 good:poor; food was disappointing, and there was a question about freshness; the restaurant looks nice, but the tables and chairs are too small and overcrowded, may not be the most accessible option for those with disabilities.
We were somewhat disappointed with our visit. We were greeted and felt welcome when we came in, and the gentleman at the register was very nice. We ordered our food (2 pizzas: motorino & Pollo e pumante, and a glass of wine each, and the other person with me bought a ceasar salad). We were offered choice of indoor and outdoor seating, chose indoor as it was a little too cool outside. The tables were very close together and too small to really accommodate plates, glasses, a pizza tray, and the condiments and seasonings already present on the table. I had difficulty getting past the table to get into the booth, and the other individual with me found the chair to be uncomfortable to sit in. We're not the thinnest people in the world, but we're not huge, either, and knowing people with limited mobility, I'd be hard-pressed to state that the restaurant is accessible. The server brought us our wine and the salad. My compatriot found the ceasar salad to be a little too fishy, but the piece of bread that was included was good. They said it was "just bread" (obviously not impressed). When the pizzas came, there was not enough room to keep both trays on the table and accommodate plates. Maybe that was the reason our server didn't offer us plates? My compatriot used her salad plate, but never set the pizza down, to avoid the possibility of making her pizza taste fishy. I used one of the pizza trays after clearing some space. We had asked about the chili oil on the table, and the server was kind enough to bring a small bowl for that, but other than when she brought the pizzas, she didn't check on us again. The motorino was good, and a surprising change from the kind of pizzas I normally get, but the pollo e pumante, which is similar to the kinds of pizza I usually get, was really disappointing. Overall, the pollo lacked flavor and salt, and the chicken tasted about 3 or 4 days old and was overly dry. I was fed and full, but disappointed about the entirety of the experience. There are a couple other pizzas on the menu that I'd like to try, but I'm wary of getting them and having the same experience. My compatriot is fine with never...
Read moreIl Vicino is by far one of my favorite restaurants. My experience today will not impact my relationship with the food from there but I just wanted to note this awful customer service experience so other people don't make the same mistake I did.
I accidently left my debit card at home so I used the app to order. I eat there once a week (usually at the downtown location, and usually carry-out) so it's something I use often. In the notes section I indicated that I would be dining in. Someone (who I'm assuming was the manager because of the attire he was wearing) called my phone while I was sitting at a table in the restaurant and told me that I would not be able to dine in because I ordered through carry out. I told him that I was already at the restaurant and that I had left my debit card at home but he reiterated that I would not be able to dine in. It was awkward because I was literally looking at him as he was telling my this on the phone and he made no effort to ask me where I was so he could talk to me in person about it.
Since this was during lunchtime I was pressed for time and ended up eating in my car since I couldn't eat in the restaurant.
The staff that works there has always been great and I will more than likely continue to eat there. I think that I would have appreciated maybe a little accommodation "just this one time" along with an explanation that this isn't something that they can normally do and won't be doing in the future. I especially didn't appreciate the fact that I had stated on the phone that I was in the restaurant and he made no attempt to ask me where I was so we could talk (it was also difficult to carry a conversation on the phone because it was busy in there).
My mistakes were: Leaving my debit card at home Assuming that I could dine in ordering with the app Not grabbing the manager when he called me and I saw him talking on the phone to me (I'm also looking at this retrospectively and it didn't occur to me at the time to grab him)
The pizza was delicious though. Kudos...
Read moreMy wife, son and I decided we wanted pizza for a late meal, so after searching through a list of restaurants, we picked this place because it had a wood-fired oven.
When we arrived, there weren’t many cars around, but being a holiday, I wasn’t surprised. I don’t think that there would be challenges finding a place to park at any time, though.
The prices seemed very reasonable for a 12” pizza, and these pizzas are really designed for one person unless you’re not very hungry, in which case two people could share one.
When we went to the counter to order, the lady at the counter asked if we wanted the 12” or 8”. Apparently, the menu shows the 12” price, and the 8” prices are a few dollars less. My wife ordered the smaller size, and my son and I opted for the 12”.
As for the pizza options, my wife and son ordered a Testarossa, which features pepperoni, red peppers, mushrooms and other items. I selected a plain cheese pizza and then added mushrooms.
The food came out quickly and was really delicious. We had no trouble finishing off the pizzas.
While you do place your order at the counter before sitting down, this feels more like a full service restaurant. We sat down and a server brought us our food and drinks. She also took care of refills. It was nice to relax a bit after a day of hiking.
I’d recommend this place for your pizza fix. The service is quick and the...
