The food at New China Kitchen was... In a nutshell... Bland and disgusting. I got the orange chicken, and my wife got the chicken curry. When we tasted all our food we were met with extreme disappointment. First of all I asked for spicy and I couldnt taste a single bit of spice. My wife got extra spicy, and she couldnt taste anything either. (This isn't us bragging about having a spice tolerance, although we have a moderate tolerance, we can definitely tell when something has spice).
The biggest disappointment of all, my orange chicken had orange peels in it. Cut thin enough that it would be unreasonable to pick out, but big enough that I'm still having to bite into bitter orange peels/rind. Seriously who at New China Kitchen thought that was a good idea to do? It completely ruined the taste of the chicken.
They also breaded the chicken for the curry... Like.... ? Why?????
On top of all of this, I got the hot and sour soup, and instead of hot, it was .... Sweet. Why? Who knows. Last time I checked hot and sour means spicy and sour. Not sweet and sour.
Needless to say we will not be ordering from here again. We had two separate meals that were way below any standard that we have for Chinese food, and at the end of the day the price was not worth what we received by any stretch of the imagination.
I know it's tough for small businesses right now, but there also has to be a baseline standard of quality at any food establishment. And what we received could not be described as...
Read moreI was having a busy day and thought that getting some take out delivered to my house would be fantastic (and it actually was). I ordered Sweet and Sour chicken for a roommate and Beef Chow Mein, and Wonton Soup for myself. The delivery was a little bit faster then the estimated 40-60 minute time frame (roughly 36 minutes). My roommates order looked fantastic and so did mine, But my order wasn't Beef Chow Mein. I instead received some sort of Beef with Veggies. I didn't bother calling them or complaining because there really was no need to. I ate the food and it was really, really good. The veggies for one were colorful and delicious which is surprising to me for a take out style place. Clearly there was some care and prep in the dish that I had. As for the Wonton soup, that too was good (one of the best Wonton soups I have had). The soup has doughy, meat filled, ravioli like wontons instead of the strips of wonton that some (like myself) would be familiar with and again it seemed very fresh.
So with all that said:
This was one of our favorite places to order in. They had amazing sesame chicken. I get it every single time because it's my favorite. This time we ordered 2 orders of this...both were extremely chewy and dry, hard to eat. I called to tell them (and I've only had that issue one other time and another time they forgot my noodles for chow mein) and the lady argued at first that it's always this way (it's not) and then brought up that I had an issue in the past one time with the chicken. The fried rice was very bland and used to be good.
Deal is, even if I did, I've ordered many, many times without issue. She asked if I wanted something else other than sesame chicken. No, I just want my favorite dish cooked so that it's not dry and chewy. Asked if I want it crunchy or soft next time. I want it normal...just not chewy. It was 2 messed up meals. I have a credit for 1 sesame chicken for the future. Don't argue with customers over the food. Just help them out. Ordering many times over the years versus 2 complaints should mean something. Their meals are not cheap.
Even if I used to like the meals, I doubt I'll ever order from them again because of how she acted on the phone. It's not the same food quality or customer service as before. The food costs too much to gamble...
