This place was disappointing. If you're hoping for authentic cuisine, this is not it. However, it's relatively approachable for those that want something americanized. I'll start off with the positives: -The place is clean and the seating is organized. -The service provided was typically prompt. Now the negatives: -I started off with Turkish coffee. It was overbearingly sweet. They don't serve it with sugar to let you have control over sweetness, nor do they ask you how you'd like it. -I chose the za'atar pita as my appetizer, with a side of their 'magic' sauce and baba ganoush. Their pita bread is incredibly gimmicky. It served no purpose, whether to be an appetizer or as part of an entree, other than being a salty oil sponge. If you're looking for fresh and poofy pita bread, you're out of luck. Additionally, I'm amazed this establishment is bold enough to call *that* baba ganoush. It was some mystery over processed product that lacks any connection to real baba ganoush. It felt disrespectful if anything. Their 'magic sauce' was inoffensive tasting but it felt like a terrible imitator of traditional toum. -I decided on their lamb kabob as the entree. I attempted to order the lamb as medium rare, but this place has a house rule of cooking everything all the way through. Low n' behold, the lamb came out as dried pucks of meat. They overload the plate with so many middling accoutrements that you'd almost not notice the distinct lack of protein. If there's one selling point in this, the portions for everything except the protein were decent. Support establishments that have pride and respect for the food and culture. This is not it.

Visited on 11/23/2016 It was later in the evening and after a day of walking, hiking and sightseeing we were hungry. Not just the run-of-the-mill, “I’m hungry” hunger, but a deep hunger that permeates through the very center of your gut and reaches into your brain and slaps the crap out of your hypothalamus. Yes….. that hungry. But we didn’t want to settle for fast food or a chain restaurant. Lucky for us we were in the area and Heart of Jerusalem sounded like a great idea. Considering the number of reviews already posted I’ll save us time and just stress…. This place is great! Sure, it’s small and the service may be spotty from time to time due to the amount of staff available…. But holy crap, the food is awesome. I couldn’t make up my mind on what to eat so I decided to try a little bit of everything and went for the sampler. Yup, one full-sized sampler for one person….. I told you…. I was HUNGRY! Everything on the sampler was great and I highly recommend it to anyone that’s looking of something “different”. If you’ve never had this kind of food or don’t know if you have the palette for it… it’s worth a try. I topped the night off with some Baklava and Turkish coffee. I sat at my table, peacefully sipping my coffee and savoring the Baklava…. reveling in food I just ate. It was an experience and I will most definitely make this a stop every time I visit Colorado Springs.

I really, really want to love Heart of Jerusalem but it fails to deliver in both food and service. The appetizers were generally good. The hummus and Baba Ghanoush were tasty. The falafel is cleverly shaped like hearts but was disappointingly bland. Where things really fall apart is HoJ's service. The two waitstaff on the day we visited were curt to the point of being hostile. When my companion asked about tea without sugar the server snapped "You get it the way it comes." The server delivered the wrong food to the table and became visibly angry when we pointed out it was not what we ordered. She made a scene complaining we'd "changed our minds" and then berated us loudly to the other staff and kitchen. I had the lamb and beef/gyro platter and the gyro was weirdly squishy and limp, without much flavor or texture. The entire plate was served as a giant, grey mound that was both unappealing to look at and less appealing to eat. I love Middle Eastern food and Colorado Springs has a number of great Middle Eastern restaurants. With improved service and a focus on presentation and flavor, Heart of Jerusalem could be good. Right now it is not. I'll try it again in a few months to see if they can earn a better rating. Pro tip: I recommend skipping Heart of Jerusalem and trying the Turkish restaurant The Purple Onion - it's a dive but the food is incredible.

I have to say. I've been driving past this place for years. I always thought it was a deli or, at least, a style of deli.

Today I noticed the sign in the side of the building that said Gyros, Falafel, Kabobs, etc..

I was craving some kabob and went in to check it out.

TOTALLY worth it. It is a small restaurant, but that only adds to the intimacy of it.

The food here was incredible! VERY great flavor and seasoned to perfection. I had a sampler of kabob styles and ALL of the mats were perfect.

It's, without question, the best Middle Eastern food I've ever had. And I actually love Mediterranean and middle Eastern food. What the food reminded me of, was eating a hearty and great meal at a large family gathering with the kind of flavor that only the sheer love of food makes. Brilliant!!!

On top of that, Amir, the gentleman that I talked to while waiting, was just a wonderful person with very patient and good natured conversation.

We talked about great stuff and, honestly, my visit there made my entire day. I didn't catch the young lady's name that helped me, but she was very sweet and everyone there made it a top priority to make sure that I was enjoying my wait there, and that everything was to my liking.

I've been a manager of businesses for most of my life, and have employed thousands of people over the decades, THIS is the kind of service and people who i, and any other customer service oriented person would strive to surround themselves with.

I cannot recommend this place enough. It's the kind of restaurant where I wouldn't hesitate to go back to. It would, honestly, be a great place for a nice date to enjoy some really great food in a quiet and soft setting.

Brilliant food. Lovely people. And a VERY sweet little restaurant. I just love it.

Thank you to everyone who works there. The conversation was uplifting. The food is amazing, and it makes EVERYTHING about it seem so much more perfect. Truly...

I called the Austin Bluffs location, which is about 15 minutes from my house for a family reunion catering. I called about three weeks before the reunion. The lady said that they don’t cater from that location, but since my order would be for 10 people, that they would do it if I give them 24 hours notice. One week before the event, I called back to see if I could already place my order. Another lady said that they couldn’t, that I was given the wrong information. However, if I ordered from the catering location, the food could be dropped off at the Austin Bluffs location and I could pick it up from there. So I went ahead and ordered from the catering location and I used the chat option to specify where the food needed to be dropped off, at the Austin Bluffs location. The person from the chat informed me that they cannot drop off the food at their Austin Bluffs location, but since I was giving wrong information twice, they would deliver to my house and waived the delivery fee. Three days before the event I get a message from the chat person saying that because the round-trip for delivery will be 17 miles they would not be able to deliver for free and it would be roughly $60 for delivery. I said that if they couldn’t keep their part of the deal, I needed a refund. We had too much going on on the day of the event to be able to travel to get the food about 40 minutes away from my house. They say they would refund me but I still had to message them a day later to remind them of their refund. Three days away from the event I still had no plan B. I communicated that to my guests and they could not believe that I was given wrong information three times and they would not do anything to compensate. My order was a little over $200. All I got from that chat person was that they would hope I would consider them in the future! I still have all of the messages saved. There is no way I will consider them for business...

4 Stars: The staff was totally on top of everything- especially given that they were getting slammed when we came in for dinner.

The food was delicious, excellent serving portions, and decently priced.

We really liked that there was no TV to distract the kids from eating (but having a coloring or sticker thing would've been helpful).

1 Star: The establishment was too cramped. It felt like we were sitting with the people next to us, our kiddos were right in everyone's spaces, and I worried about elbows & chairs getting clipped from passers-by.

The pillows for style & creating a Middle Eastern feel were a nice touch, but maybe not for where people eat.. they kept falling on the floor & fingers that were messy had to be used to keep retrieving them.

The table was also very wobbly and our waters kept spilling whenever we moved.

There was a very strong chemical/cleaning solution smell that was overpowering & eliminated the smells of yummy food being prepared.

It would be helpful if there was a way the staff member ringing up the bill checked in with the guests to see if any applicable discounts need to be applied before charging/taking the cash.

We had a bill/check where it needed to be separated into 3 different charges/tabs.

Each person needed to stand in line to pay (also clogging up the space).

The bill should've been separated into 3 separate bills vs one collective bill that each person made their payment to.

Because it wasn't separated, after the 1st person paid their bill, I was no longer able to receive my discount for my bill. This meant that I didn't have the money from that discount to use towards the tip like I was planning on doing (or save, if someone else had agreed to cover the tip).

OVERALL: The food is worth the visit (as was the kindly & "on top of it" service)- but I'd totally recommend getting food "to go" and/or going during times where it's not...
