My fiancé, his best friend and I finally decided to try My House last night after hearing some good reviews from friends. We frequent a lot of raves and dance parties, so our expectations were high for Columbia’s most popular nightclub. Unfortunately, it was the worst bar we’ve been to yet. We waited 30 minutes to get in, cover charge was $10, and the drinks were overpriced and filled with ice. The outside portion had porta potty bathrooms that were disgustingly wet and no sinks. The dance floor outside was smooshed against the bar, so drunk people were always pushing their way through and breaking up any dancing that started. Also there were wire tables right behind the dance floor/in front of the bar that could have been moved to give the bar lines and dance floor more space. The inside had a different atmosphere and better flow in terms of furniture/space, but there weren’t any people really dancing inside. That’s what I really look for in nightlife, and My House just didn’t have it. May have been the crowd that night, but I don’t want to pay a $10 cover for an experience that may not even be happening. I’ll give credit when it’s due though, and those DJs were amazing. We only stayed as long as we did because we enjoyed hearing what they mixed. I personally loved how the inside looked as well, but it just wasn’t lit. I wouldn’t go again. More underclassmen than an ENG...
Read moreMy experience: One male there, after pushing my friends and I multiple times, elbowed me so hard I stumbled forward, then I turned around to find him screaming and spitting in my boyfriend’s face. Ultimately, the two talked through things, the offender even apologizing. By then, the bouncer was hovering on the platform above us, and my boyfriend (who, for the record, had consumed 1 drink), gave him a thumbs up, attempting to indicate that all was well. The bouncer then proceeded to jump down and grab my boyfriend, whisking him away. He was cooperative with the bouncer, not combative or even asking questions, but that didn’t seem to matter. We ran behind them as the bouncer quite literally threw him out the door, and the rest of our party asked if we could leave out that door as well, to which he responded by letting the other male in our party out the door and closing it on us girls. I worry for the next group who is wrongly thrown out in favor of an aggressive patron. I also worry for other young women who are inappropriately shoved/grabbed by the waist by strangers as staff watches. Additionally, bathroom floor was wet, cluttered with cups/trash, and smelled strongly of urine (I am told the men’s bathroom was the same way). Drinks were also...
Read moreIf I could give this place 0 stars I would. As I was on the dance floor listening to horrible remixed songs one after another a small altercation broke out between me and another patron. After being there for 30 minutes and only having 1 watered down drink I was sober enough to deescalate the situation and become cordial with him. After a few minutes of being back to enjoying time with friends one of the bouncers that had been staring me down jumped off his little perch and kicked me out for no reason. Not only was I kicked out but the group I was with followed closely behind me and had the door slammed in their faces as they tried to leave behind me by the staff. Other than the rude staff the bathrooms were covered in multiple kinds of bodily fluids and they over served many people with no accountability of their actions. Please avoid this place...
