Okay, I grew up in the resturant business and can understand a large table top coming in and slowing things down. However, forgetting about your smaller tables is a huge no no. Things started out great. Then our waiter disappeared and didn't come back after we placed our order. However, we were a bit slow to order so we understand possibly having to wait a bit longer for our food. We had our two little ones with us and our two year old was starving...a two year old toddler can chew off your arm in case you have never known one! We did order the fried pickles with our drinks...which did not come for over 30 min. Did I mention that my beer was piss WARM? And our son was getting loud bc he was hungry and I was not ready to sacrifice my arm... We watched the other tables get served while our kids went hungry and my arm became more and more in jeopardy of getting a chunk taken out. Did I mention my husband's beer was piss warm too??? Still no waiter. Over an hour later our food arrived. The "famous" French fries would have been fantastic...if they hadn't been served ice COLD. All of them. I guess that was good for the babies so they could finally eat something! We had ordered a double burger...and got a single which was the same thickness as a McDonald's burger...and we hate McDonald's. I am still confused at why the chicken strips and small burger were hot but the fries were COLD. We also got the "bout died fries"....the chili was good...but there were hardly any fries with the chili and "fries"???! Guess I can give credit where its due and say that the flavor of the burgers, fried pickles and side salad were good. The flavor of the cold fries would have have been very good too....but if you love French fries you know that cold fries are AWFUL... especially home fries! We would have let them know and try to get fresh fries...but no one ever came back before the kids had finished eating, while I sat wishing that I had HOT French fries and COLD beer. We won't be back unless we just want to play pool...and grab a COLD drink, from ACROSS the...
Read moreI've had good and bad experiences at Billiards. I've sat at the bar and had some homeless guy try to pick a fight with me as the bartender watched without saying a word. And I've had a server take my order and disappear as my food grew cold on the bar. I eventually walked over and got the food myself. When she finally returned to my table and gave me the bill she asked me how everything was. I mentioned the fact that my food was sitting on the bar until I got up and got it myself. She told me she was busy cleaning tables in the back of the restaurant. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I thought, "Who on earth trained this girl?"
I've worked at restaurants (including 2 1/2 years at the Heidelberg) and I can tell you that none of the servers I've worked with would dream of telling a customer they were too busy to bring their food to the table. "I was busy" isn't much of an excuse and it wouldn't fly at most restaurants. Rather than making excuses what you're supposed to do is clean your tables while keeping an eye on the bar so you can get the customer's food as soon as it's cooked. You're expected to both clean the tables AND take food to customers.
On other occasions the service was OK and the food was good. Overall, this is a decent restaurant that could use some improving. I don't think it's being managed as well as it could be. At the places where I worked there was always a manager in the dining room watching everything that was happening. I don't think this is the case at Billiards. Whenever I've been to Billiards, the only employees I've seen was a bartender and one or two servers. I haven't been to Billiards in about a year. If it's anything like it was a year ago, the owner should consider hiring someone to keep an eye...
