I’ve eaten a lot of BBQ in my life. I can be kind of snobby about it. Having lived in Columbia for a little while, I’ve always been very disappointed with the barbecue we have available to us here. It’s typically over priced, cooked improperly, and overall below average for Tennessee standards.
I found Gabes via Google so I went and checked it out. Every good barbecue place needs a few things - good sides, good buns, good barbecue sauces, and of course good actual meat. Many places microwave sides, grab cheap buns from Kroger, skip out on going the extra mile on making good sauces (hot sauce is NOT hot bbq sauce), and cook their meat on electric smokers without much rhyme or reason.
Gabes hit a five out of five on all four of those categories. The pulled pork was good, the sides were tasty, the sauce was unique to them, it was affordable and you could just tell they took pride in what they do. I will be going back a lot more. Check this place out if you’re in the area and you want some good barbecue. They also have a drive-through and...
Read moreMe and my family were down in the area from Massachusetts seeing the plot of barren land my mother bought. Anyways it was our last day in Tennessee we were heading back to airport to depart from the warm comfort of the south. My dad suggested this spot and walking inside we were immediately greeted by Sissy what a woman. If you were from the north you know the people aren't friendly here sometimes referred to as "massholes". Here at Gabe's Smokehouse it felt like less of a restaurant and more of home. Their secrect recipe slaw is something you won't find anywhere else. Ice box pies were so delicious we shared a chocolate, cherry and coconut to top off our wonderful meal. If you want to support a family owned and run business and have a delicious meal and get your moneys worth make sure you stop here. So friendly and welcoming to us please give this place a try!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ -love 7 and her...
Read moreDry, bland and just almost over cooked and certainly charred. Ribs did fall apart but the excitement ended there. We're from out of town and really rely on a 4.3 or higher being accurate. We exclusively eat at mom and pop establishments.
Very disappointed. My wife and I can usually take home left overs and heat them up the next day while home or on vacation.
Unfortunately just wasn't worth taking home.
Dine in was basically an afterthought. Bottled drinks. Order at the register.
Staff was very friendly and couldn't find fault at all with the staff. The ribs didn't even smell appetizing. Something was just off. We do love cooking ribs ourselves and often leave very high reviews.
Service was very quick....
