The old idiom ‘good things come in small packages’ has been applied to countless things over the years, from movies to jewelry to compact sports cars. I am unsure whether or not the adage has yet been applied a taco shop; in the event that it hasn’t, I’d like to propose that Los Potros is the threshold for which the saying needs to be applied. Don’t let the barebones aesthetic fool you – just because the restaurant is fairly small, non-descript, offset from the main-road, and indoor seating is scarce, doesn’t mean you aren’t in for some of the best, authentic Jalisco style Mexican food in Columbia.
Begin your journey to culinary bliss by calling in an order to go, or by ‘dining-in’ at the adjacent picnic tables under the metal awning. The menu offerings run the gamut from tacos to tortas, to burritos, sopas, combination plates, and more. Occasionally, patrons are graced with new and limited-time menu additions such as the ridiculously delicious birria tacos, ridiculously delicious hot Cheetos burritos, pozole, and more. Everything is crafted in-house with concurrent nods to both authenticity and depth of flavor. They have an array of drink options including several variants of the ubiquitous fruit-flavored soda of taco lovers everywhere, Jarritos.
Everything that Los Potros lacks due to its size constraints (increased seating capacity, liquor/alcoholic beverages) is more than atoned for by the product they put on the plate for...

While Los Potros may have just grown up and moved into a real restaurant building as opposed to a little taco stand where you had to eat outside on picnic tables, their customer service needs some maturity, as well. Just ate there for the first time since they moved. Still don’t have any napkins, instead offer coarse folded bathroom paper towels. Great for drying hands, not so good for wiping hot sauce off your face.
Speaking of hot sauce, they guard it very carefully and you have to go up front and wait to ask for a tiny little cup if you need more. Would be great if they could mirror what other Mexican taco joints do and have hot sauce available in a common area in bottles to use at the tables. Also, I ordered 3 big street tacos, but was only given ONE tiny little 1/8 of a lime that wasn’t enough to coat a single taco. Waited in line to ask for a few more limes and was told I would have to pay for them. Seriously?
The food is decent, but they’ve got to work on some of these...
Read moreThe traveling is wonderful. As FT RVers 🐢🚍, we travel slowly. Stopping along the way at a hopefully good taco 🌮 place. Well, here it is. Found this out of the way, hole 🕳️ in the wall Potros. Sure enough, great Mexican food and some compadres from the West coast adjusting to the Midwest. I say, Orale! Eses! Qué onda!? My Ruca & I order the French fries 🍟 with all kinds of stuff including the extras and carne asada. Very tasty 😋. However a bit on the costly side. Didn't get enough frijoles, esa! A few more fries might have been a welcome sight, también. Órale! It didn't matter. Took it down with a Jarritos and it was all good. Nice job. By the way, the Toreados, were fuming! Fire 🚒🔥. All in all, it was a good stop. Shall we return? That's if we're in the area again. I would say, Simon que Sí! Ay te guacho! TORTUGA 🐢...
