Before last night, I would have given this establishment 4 stars for the various delicious items on the menu and the cool atmosphere of an arcade which takes you back in time with a modern flare. Unfortunately, I will no longer take my business here anymore. Last night when trying to show my sister, who was here from out of town a few different places in Cola, we decided to visit Transmission. The guy at the door took one look at her ID, her driver's license, and said he would not accept it. When asked why, he went on to say that he was from North Carolina and he had never seen an ID that looked like hers. He didn't have an ID scanner but since he was from NC, where I am from as well, he was an expert in all NC IDs. I was confused and was asking questions about how we could authenticate the driver's license, yet he continued to make rude comments and speak to his friends about the ID issue that did not concern anyone. When I asked to speak to the GM or manager, he went in, spoke to him and came out saying that he was busy. I later called and spoke to him on the phone and all he did was make excuses for his door man, instead of inviting us back or apologizing and making things right. He then brought up a binder with all state IDs that was not even mentioned before. I found a picture of the type of ID my sister had online, but the manager could not even come out to speak to us. Until the end of the conversation, he dismissed the situation and there was nothing more to say. It is such a disappointment that the establishment could not even begin to find a solution for authenticating IDs or have the decency to treat their customers better. It was a situation they clearly just did not have time for. I believe in safety and law abiding actions in all situations. But there was no authentication solution that was presented and the disrespect was appalling. It speaks measures of who they are and what...

I SAW THAT INCREDIBLE BLUES GUITARIST AGAIN last night on June 2, 2023. {LOG NOTES || top secret IF NOT classified ⚠️!!!} "Yes, this much is true. It was definitely prior to 10 pm TGIF as they say down here. "IT was definitely the SAME BLUES 🎸 GUITARIST I observed last time. "I feel very confident in saying that the guitarist IS Stevie RAY Vaughn. Now we know this can't be true BUT at the same time I have a BEST FRIEND who hired Stevie Ray Vaughn and his TRIO and the time (early 1980s) DOUBLE TROUBLE when you could get Stevie & his boys for less than $800 and so he did. The Club was in Columbia, SC and it may or may not have been called {IRISH PUB THAT STARTS WITH M} and well by God nobody came but my friend and DOUBLE TROUBLE had a very good time. "This time the YOUNG GUITARIST had I swear to (_) Billy Preston on an ORGAN that I have never come across in my entire time here logging things. The ORGANIST however goes by the name MOSES and informed me personally that Billy Preston did inspire him as a child when Billy played with ANDRE` CROUCH(!?!) 'CAPTAIN, I was unaware of this earthly transaction EVEN THOUGH my mother & father took me as a Child to see Andre Crouch & the Disciples at the TOWN SHIP AUDITORIUM ON Taylor STREET in the 1970s "I'm going to have to END this ENTRY for now and I have no doubt that Mr. T will have another PERFORMANCE of equally explosive existentialisms TONIGHT on Saturday; which I understand to be June 3 of the year of...

Previously gave this place 5 stars but they’ve dropped down to 1, based on very negative experiences I’ve had with 2 different bartenders lately. I can guarantee they would not have the same attitude with me if I were with a black man but they see a black woman by herself and think it’s ok to be disrespectful. Because they’re never welcoming, they have no idea I’m a great guest and tipper because I don’t tip well or go out of my way to be my natural caring self after receiving nasty looks and lip from servers. I’ve been a regular here for about 3 months, coming in almost every evening/night and tipping the usual bartenders like Leah, Lauren, and Leonard 30%-100% of my total bill. All it takes is one nasty bartender to drive away business and cause people to go give you 1 star reviews. I’ll never go here again and will be spreading the word to everyone I’d previously told about this place that it is not for black people. Two bartenders in particular do not deliver the same level of service to...

Transmission Arcade & Bar in downtown Columbia is the perfect blend of nostalgia and nightlife. Walking in feels like stepping into your childhood—only now, there’s a killer cocktail in hand. The walls hum with old-school arcade classics, while the energy is electric with laughter, friendly competition, and great music. What sets this place apart is that it’s not just about the games. The food is shockingly good—think comfort food with a creative twist. The smash burger is a must, and the loaded fries are next-level. The bartenders know their stuff too, serving up craft beers and cocktails that rival any upscale bar in town. Whether you’re coming for a throwback game night, a casual date, or just to unwind with friends, Transmission delivers a vibe that’s both laid-back and unforgettable. It’s Columbia’s hidden gem where fun and flavor collide.

I came for the wings. I heard great things about them and they delivered. Solid 8.7. Best smoked wings in Columbia in my opinion. Perfect amount of rub and smoke. Crispy skin and juicy inside. Came out hot. They do not appear to be frozen previously. I had the blue cheese and the Abacus Gold sauces. Blue cheese was thicc like butter and melted on the hot wing. Dank. Perfect combo in my mind. The Abacus Gold was very good as well. Mustard based, vinegary, and has a little kick to it. I think it goes well with the rub on the wings and was also tasty when double dipped with the blue chee. I will be back for the wings. The rest of the place is cool too. Good beer list, good number of arcade games. Also very clean. If anyone asks who has the best smoked wings in Columbia, this will be my answer, hands down, no second guessing.
