Subpar and uncomfortable service today with the window service. I live nearby and have a dog, so we really appreciate that they have a window where you can order without needing to go inside. However today, having walked from my home with my dog, aunt, and cousin in tow, when we tried to order brunch from the window the server, who I think might have been today’s manager, told me that they were only taking drink orders from the window because they had a long line inside and didn’t want people skipping the line. I explained that I had my dog with me, relying on window service like always, so I could not order from the inside. The server suggested that I place an order online. However when I placed the online order, there was no clear indication of how I would be notified when our food would be ready. Then after we had been waiting about 30 minutes for our food, someone else walked up to the window and was allowed to order food from the window from a different server. We ended up canceling our order because our food was still not ready after 45 minutes of waiting, and my aunt needed to get to the airport for a flight. Overall we had a subpar service experience today. I really did not appreciate how the service today made me and my party feel like second- class citizens. Overall very disappointed with a restaurant that I normally recommend to other dog owners precisely because of the doggie window option. When my partner or I have ordered from the window in the past with our dog the servers are normally great. I’m not sure what was going on with the manager today, but her service skills today left much to be desired. Hopefully Emmets’s can improve their system for how to handle the doggie window fairly and effectively, even when...
Read moreI frequently visit Emmett's Cafe on Neil Avenue because of its convenient location, excellent coffee, and cozy atmosphere. I'm writing this review to highlight the cafe's accessibility features. The space is large, with both indoor and outdoor seating. However, parking can be a challenge, as the lot is often full due to nearby businesses. While there are accessible parking spots, they are relatively narrow, which might be an issue for individuals using wheelchairs who need extra space.
The front entrance features wide double doors that meet ADA standards and are often left open in good weather. Inside, there are various seating options, including high-top tables, booths, and tables for 2-4 people, offering flexibility. The restroom has three stalls, including an accessible one, and the signage includes braille. However, the restroom door does not open automatically, which may require assistance for those with mobility impairments, as it opens outward and requires using a handle.
Once inside, the cafe is spacious and easy to navigate, with minimal barriers beyond seating arrangements. Soft, often instrumental music plays in the background, adding to the relaxed environment. The main section of the cafe, when you first enter, has natural lighting from the windows. If you would like dimmer lighting, the seating in the back is not as bright.
Overall, Emmett's is a great place for food, drinks, and studying! A recommendation that I have is to make the menus more accessible with potentially a read-aloud option, but other than that I believe this setting is...
Read moreSet up in the Open Air building on Neil Avenue in Old North Columbus, Emmett's Cafe perfectly refreshes the historic charm of the building. Full of plants, light, modern furniture, and great coffee and food, this is an all-time favorite breakfast spot of mine, and I often find myself waking up and craving a One Handed Breakfast Sandwich and a cup of coffee from Emmett's. Especially on a weekday morning when it's quiet, you can't beat the jazz or downtempo music and early morning sun reflecting off of the surface of your coffee - it's a perfect start to the day. It's also nice to sit outside when the weather is nice. My favorites other than the breakfast sandwich are the Loaded Toast, the Banana Bread, and the Overnight Oats. The quality and freshness of the ingredients is excellent. Most of the time you can find parking, on the weekends it's a little harder but you can usually snag a spot in the parking lot. It's a great spot to bring friends and folks from out of town. The service is really friendly and they want to make sure you're taken care of. Next to Understory and Butcher Shop Fitness, it's clear that cool things are happening in the area. I only wish it was around when I was living a block away as an...
