First of all, I must say that I have a lot of admiration and respect for the staff of the Local Cantina restaurants, et al, of which this restaurant is a part. I find that the food is fresh and delicious and the service is exceptional. Each restaurant that is opened in a different location is conscious of their community and gives back. We heard that Mid City Garage had a soft opening yesterday so we went today. We ate outside on the man-made picnic tables on a Friday at happy hour. There was proper social distancing due to the covid-19 rules. They did very well with their sanitation between parties. We had three people in our group. We started with the cheese board. This was an enjoyable appetizer as we waited for our entrees. One of our guests ordered the Italian sandwich which came with a bag of salt and pepper potato chips from Connecticut. We had not heard of the brand before, but they were very good. The sandwich was served on a focaccia bread. Another guest in our party ordered the carbonara Pizza. He got the herb garlic butter as a dip for his crust. The pizzas are made for one person and are not cut. They're meant to be torn. On the menu they say they are tear-able pizzas. That does not mean they are terrible they are just meant to be torn. It was easy to cut them with a butter knife if needed. The kitchen had a mistake menu item which we gladly accepted for free which was a brisket sandwich. I will tell you that every item we had was fresh and full of flavor. We especially liked the pimento cheese which is made in-house. This particular pimento cheese does have a slight heat to it. I did suggest to the management that they should sell it in deli style tubs for takeout. This is being taken under consideration, I hope. Of course the restaurant is new, so it is very clean. It does have a great layout and the bathrooms are convenient. They have placed the hand-washing station for the bathrooms in the hallway between the two bathrooms. The decor is very garage mechanic themed to honor the former tenant of the building which we found as a great homage to him. Our group feels this is a welcome addition to Merion Village. We...
Read moreA good friend invited me to for a bite to catch up after not seeing each other for months due to Covid-19. She said the location was new to the German Village area. When I arrived I liked the vibe / atmosphere. My companion ordered the Carbonara pizza and a drink while I ordered the Brisket pizza and a stelzer. Our pizzas were good and I am a avid fan of the dipping sauce. What will make me come back is the amazing service my friend and I received. While we were clearly done eating and just chatting a gentleman came to us and asked if me and my friend would mind getting up and going to the waiting table so him and his group could come sit down and eat. I told him yes because I naturally go to the path of less resistance to things. Not even 20 seconds went by when two different waitresses came by and asked if the guy came by and asked us to exchange seats. They shared with us that’s not how they conduct business there and if me and my friend did not want to get up we did not have to. They apologize for the man coming to ask us to get up and went and spoke with the large group, presumptively sharing with the table that they should wait for service and not to bother parties already seated asking them to get up. Because in reality, that’s what he politely asked me and friend to do. Get up so he and his friend group could sit down together and eat. I want to thank the two waitresses for standing up for me and my friend and our right to sit and talk as long as we would like after paying for a meal. The other group was at least 8 people or more and would have been good business and a even better tip for them. Instead they encouraged us to stay as long as we would like and offered us a free drink and apologies for something they had no control of. Me and my friend sat and spoke well into the night. I will for sure be back. Thank you again to...
Read moreVERY disappointed (and sick) after trying this place. The bartenders were very rude after attempting to order drinks multiple times. When they did not have any red win on the menu, we asked what other options they had but with no help nor clear answers. After walking back to our table, the girl stormed out and slammed a 2 oz glass of wine (not what was ordered) on the table, proceeding to storm back in.
The food was horrible, cold, and has left all of us feeling sick. Ordering the brisket nachos per recommendation, they were inedible. The “cheese” was cold and congealed, completely gelatinous - served over stale crumbs from a bag of store brand, generic tortilla chips. When we asked if the cheese or nachos could be reheated, the person serving the food at the window merely responded that her manager would be back soon. She looked at our food, looked at the cheese in the pot, wrinkled her nose, and responded, “yea that’s cold it doesn’t look good.” She did not offer any remedied nor replacements. When I shrugged and said “ok I guess I just won’t eat this” her only response was to shrug and say, “sorry.”
After only a few bits of the nachos, I am absolutely nauseous and sick to my stomach this morning. This is likely the worse dining experience I have ever had!
Kitchen mishaps happen and I can completely empathize! It’s a challenge to run a restaurant! However, the abysmal and rude staff who refused to help remedy the situation is what made a less than ideal food experience turn...
