I have been to the Fox in the Snow Italian Village location many times since it initially opened. Each time has been a pleasant experience with good food and delicious pastries.
However, a terrible experience at their new German Village location prompted me to post a review. Though the new space is quaint, its incredibly poor customer service and limited seating options created a very unpleasant dining experience.
As anticipated, the cafe was crowded and the line was long when we first arrived. However, this is not the reason for my negative review. A with many popular brunch and cafe locations in Columbus, seating is often limited. Despite this limitation, certain cafes, such as Tasi and Katalina, overcome this obstacle by slowing the pace at which orders are placed. Fox in the Snow has failed to institute such a policy. As a result of this failure pure chaos erupted on Sunday morning.
After ordering multiple pastries, sandwiches and beverages my party came to find that the entire restaurant was filled with standing customers who had already placed their order. Customers were clutching their various plates and cups trying to consume their meals while standing.
After waiting quite some time and attempting to secure a table, we were served our meals despite the fact that we obviously had no place to consume our food. Specifically, there were no open spaces to sit or to place our many dishes down. Huddled together, we found a small portion of counter space near the silverware and condiment station. Once we located this open counter space, we quickly and courteously began to eat our meal. The staff at Fox in the Snow could not have been more rude. Multiple times during our short use of the counter different staff members approached us and rudely asked us to move. Having worked in food service, I entirely understand the need to get to space that is blocked by a customer. However, I always approached the situation by apologizing and asking the customer politely to move. This was not my experience on Sunday morning. The staff had no remorse or sensitivity regarding the fact that we were attempting to eat our food without a place to sit. The staff continuously interrupted our meal, forced us to stop eating, and requested that we move so that they could utilize the space. It was quite clear that the staff was dissatisfied with our presence.
Overall, I could not be more disappointed with my experience at Fox in the Snow. I truly hope that this location adopts a new timing strategy for their orders and that they provide training for their staff regarding proper and polite...
Read moreDon’t miss the opportunity to go to this AMAZING cafe! Hands down one of the best pastry and coffee cafes I have ever been to👍🏻👍🏻 The coffee is piping hot and perfectly percolated ☕️ And the pastries…oh the pastries!!! We tried the coffee cake, blueberry galette and the raspberry filled biscuit.
The cream on top the flaky, sugared, galette crust was beautifully textured and perfectly creamy, not too sweet…the fresh blueberries pull it all together. Take your time savoring every bite of this beautiful creation! I love a perfectly balanced crème pastry and this is it!!!
Now onto the raspberry biscuit…I must preface this review by saying that living in the south, I got to know biscuits very well, hell, I even took a biscuit 101 class at the famed A Southern Season, where were taught different “biscuitology”🤣🤣 The Fox 🦊 gets my vote of “most delicious cafe item to have with coffee” of ALL TIME! No joke, folks! This biscuit has perfect, hearty texture with, (my goodness!), layers you can peel apart. If that’s not enough to get you going, this beautiful, buttery creation has thee most lovely, tart raspberry preserve, perfectly placed in the middle, and my favorite part, salted top (when you see this biscuit behind the glass you may be fooled thinking it is topped with sugar 😉😉)!!! This biscuit is perfectly baked with a delicately, crisp top and bottom! I marveled at how high the biscuits were piled on display, but now I know it’s because that pile most be easily gone by mid-morning! If you have a meeting, or special occasion breakfast gathering, be the hit of the group by bringing a dozen of these babies!!! 🙌🏻
Lastly, the coffee cake…honestly speaking, the coffee cake was my least favorite, but it is a lovely compliment to the robust coffee, not too sweet and dense, moist texture . I prefer a good New York style coffee cake, thus my 5 star rating…I do think it’s just a matter of preference😊
To say I loved my experience at The Fox is an understatement…the vibe and decor is lively and modern. And the staff was very friendly…when we mentioned we were from out of town, one staff members went so far to suggest great local restaurants for dinner! Come to think of it. If it wasn’t for that particular staff member who recommended the biscuit I would’ve never had it!! So, kudos, lovely person😍 We will return here every time we are in...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting (a Sunday at 9am) the German Village location, and this place was packed to the brim. Just like the Italian Village location, their coffee and pastries are no doubt awesome. My biggest issues are the lack of sufficient seating and poorer customer service.
My pastry and coffee came out faster than I expected and I was left carrying my food & coffee around with no place to sit or stand. Just to put it out there: they are not party-of-one friendly, especially when it's crowded. No 'bar' area nor were there sufficient smaller tables to accommodate one, without feeling pressured to eat fast + drink fast. But I knew how popular this place is so the seating problem was not all that surprising. I was however, disappointed by the lack of service or interaction between the staff and customers. Since the place was packed, I felt like the staff at the order counter could have been a little more thoughtful and friendly towards customers e.g. recommending to have my order to go; paced the order so that I at least had a little time to find a spot; or even a single apology for the lack of room would have done the trick.
This location, despite the good food/coffee and beautiful interior, felt very much soulless. The staff members here definitely do not give off the warm, friendly vibes found at the Italian Village location. The Fox in the Snow has been part of the Columbus community since the opening and success of the original Italian Village location. I would hate for this GV location to lose that connection with customers and the community. I would like to think that I happened to be there at a very hectic time and hope to give this location...
